Re: Coaching Search Thread
how were the mavs in 2011 a fluke?
so you're saying Phil would have won with the 2004 and 2005, perfectly constructed Pistons?
the pistons that were hurt through expansion were the 89 NBA champions.
how did KG not matter? they lost to the Magic in 7 without him, then trampled them the next year and made the finals.
Good coaches would have won with those teams.

Re: Coaching Search Thread
that piston team was "perfectly" constructed only because larry coached them. you talk about a team that other coaches had a dip on the same roster before and after larry, and neither rick carlisle nor flip saunders could do anything with them. what does that say about them? and rick won it all with the mavs, he isn't exactly VDN or Del Harris.
for larry to take that pistons to the promiseland was an amazing feat, and at the time everyone including all the major media outlet described the pistons as a team without a true star.
when mike shuler was the HC of the clippers back in 90-91, we had just won 31 games. when larry brown took over in the middle of 92, we went to the playoffs with 90% same roster. the next year, we made it again to the playoffs. both times we were 5th seed, i believe. after his departure, we immediately regressed and didn't see playoff games until 97 under bill fitch, another great underrated coach, and just for that 1 year... then waited all the way until the brand-cassell era. ask phil to coach that clippers who just had won 31 games a year before and take them to the playoffs as a 5th seed back to back, it won't happen.

Re: Coaching Search Thread
Jerry Sloan was in attendance at the draft combine taking notes. He could be potentially speaking with some GM's while he's there as well.
Who's in need?
Atlanta Hawks
Brooklyn Nets
Charlotte Bobcats
Detroit Pistons
Los Angeles Clippers
Philadelphia 76ers
Phoenix Suns
Milwaukee Bucks
Sacramento Kings?
That's potentially 8 other teams who are in a coaching hunt of their own.
Sources: Hawks consider historic hire of European coach Ettore Messina
CHICAGO – Atlanta Hawks general manager Danny Ferry is giving significant consideration to hiring the first European head coach in NBA history, sources told Yahoo! Sports.
Ettore Messina, the Italian-born coach of CSKA Moscow, is among the top candidates to replace coach Larry Drew. Ferry and Messina have had contact about the possibility, and Messina is intrigued with the chance to be a global trail blazer in the NBA, sources told Y! Sports.
Ferry recently scouted CSKA Moscow in London at the Euroleague Final Four.
Atlanta's top target, Stan Van Gundy, is a long shot to accept the job, league sources said.

Nothing is official. It's mostly speculation.
The Sterlings like Vinny and his charm. Donald is the reason that Vinny was hired in the first place. Neil preferred Dwayne Casey. Last year, we kept Vinny and Neil took off to Portland. It could have been a coincidence, but maybe it's not. Most people that care to see this team and franchise improve want a better coach, but Donald has the final say. It's to say that Vinny has a strong chance of saying if the decision maker is in his corner.
I don't have anything against the guy, but I don't think he's a great coach. I'd like to see him hold a position in the front office and for a new coach to take over. Quite a few players on the team do not like his coaching habits, which is a strong reason to look elsewhere imo. Check out the interview I posted of Caron on Max and Marcellus. They go in on Vinny and Caron doesn't really say anything at all in Vinny's defense. He did defend the man that writes his checks though
It's dragging out a lot longer than we would all like, but he hasn't been extended either. Cleveland already made a deal with Mike Brown, so it's not like the Clippers couldn't come to agreement already if they wanted to bring him back. So the waiting game may not mean what we don't want it to mean.

I've been to my share of games there.
maybe i wasn't looking for it.
Go to Staples and you can see the same rat ba$tard at games now... DTS! (How is that for combining two off topic comments into one post?)
the last time i saw that rat faced punk he was with half a dozen body guards and his body had grown to a size of a manati. i have my doubts he can actually reach his belly button anymore, but Im sure he can hire hookers to scratch for him there

Source: Del Negro to meet with Sterling
CHICAGO – Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling has scheduled to meet with head coach Vinny Del Negro over the weekend to discuss Del Negro's fate with the organization, a league source informed CSNNW.com.
According to the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the situation, says the two will meet in Los Angeles and a decision is anticipated shortly after.
The uncertainty of Del Negro's job status has been lingering over his head and coaching staff ever since the Clippers were bounced out of the playoffs in the first round by the Memphis Grizzlies, a team they took care of a year ago in the first round.

DTS "do you have a problem with short term contracts, vinny? i hate long term deals since mike dunleavy"
Vinny "no sir, I'm fine with a year deal as long as i get'em every year"
DTS "good, vinny. good... well are you okay with the same deal... moneywise?"
Vinny "i don't need a raise, just keep me on your payroll and i'll be more than happy, mr. sterling"
DTS "good... good. you are re-hired, vinny"
Vinny " thank you sir"

then like I said earlier, that's poor GMing.
you never let a superstar high jack the franchise. You just let him input and work together with the the brass.
u think I honestly care what Paul wants if I know he's asking for something that's not in the championship recipe?
somebody said it last week...or maybe i read/ heard it somewhere. Everything Jordan asked Krause for was terrible and Krause, as much of a fat sh** he was, pushed the right buttons in spite of all the BS he asked for.

I agree that you don't want your franchise player to also be your GM, but I think you need to take their opinions into consideration especially in Paul's situation where he is a free-agent. You're saying that you wouldn't blame Paul for bolting if we re-sign Vinny, but you're dismissive of his opinion if it is to keep someone like Vinny. I want a new coach as much as the next guy and the only way that I'll be somewhat content with Vinny staying is if Paul wanted him here.
Jordan had some bad input and it's still shows to this day. Although getting David Falk to get Xavier McDaniel off of the Knicks was huge for the Bulls. The same can be said for people like LeBron and Dwight. I believe that Paul's input has been solid for the most part so far. He may want us to bring in Byron Scott, which is a hire I wouldn't really care for. As a GM or a decision maker, you really have to weigh the pros and cons.

well, it's a fine line.
and it's a line i'd respect for byron scott or SVG.
not vinny.

The way I see it:
Tier 1 - These coaches give us the best shot.
SVG
Sloan
Tier 2 - These coaches give us a decent shot, but still better/less frustrating than VDN.
Scott
Tier 3 - These coaches have lots of upside, but hard to determine whether they'll give us a decent shot.
Pack
Shaw
That assistant coach on the Grizzlies
That EU coach
Tier 4 - These coaches put us at the same level we were these past two seasons.
VDN
Carlesimo

I just hope this doesn't drag out until sometime in June or after Free-Agency starts.

I don't understand it. Should've been shown the door the second we lost game 6. No post game interview. No locker room meeting. Final buzzer ends he should have been escorted straight to the Airport w a ticket to fly home

Re: Coaching Search Thread
this is not good either way.
if we are not making changes, and Vinny is back, at least we have a continuity at the leadership position but we all know exactly what to expect from Vinny as a coach and we will need far above the necessary level of talent just to get past the 1st round again. CP3 may not agree with this move.
if we do make changes but takes too long of a time to make that call, all the quality improvements over vinny maybe gone, and we would be stuck with options that are not necessarily a better option than vinny. if we end up hiring a first time HC, like mike malone or robert pack, they will have a hard time filling in their coaching staff as highly sought after assistants would have found their new jobs already by then too.
each day that passes us by, the chances of vinny's rehiring becomes exponentially higher, and unfortunately the wiser option, due to dwindling superior/better options.
