Mo' Money, Mo' Problems
Washington is right at $116M in salary after the three-year $25M Thomas Bryant signing. The room does not take into account the $5.9M Tomas Satoransky cap hold. The guard is a restricted free agent and a priority for Washington to bring back. The Wizards do have flexibility with $9M of non-guaranteed contracts, including the $5.7M salary of Jonathon Simmons. The guard has $1M protected with the balance guaranteed if he is not waived by July 8.
Phoenix will need to make a roster move to fit the projected $17M Ricky Rubio salary for 2019-20. The Suns are $2.6M over the cap when taking into account the Kelly Oubre Jr. hold and the projected new salary of Rubio.

Some teams are definitely going to be left out. Just take a look at the Knicks. Plus, as I responded to Buha's tweet, I believe we have the option to use the stretch provision to dump Gallo in order to fit Kawhi and Butler. However, that should obviously be a last resort.
We all knew that the Pelicans needed shooting to stretch the floor with their collection of young players, so it's no coincidence that they signed our good friend J.J. Redick. I'm guessing they'd be open to adding another shooter in Gallo since they have the cap space to absorb his deal and plenty of assets to throw us a bone.

There's no need to panic and do a move for the sake of doing something. Kawhi was always our top target. What's the point of adding all these other pieces without him? The Clippers are already on an upward trajectory. Adding Kawhi would be a jump that makes that incline steeper. Rushing to accept backup plans prematurely would only risk derailing that trajectory.

Fire Lawrence Frank. All this talk of having a Plan B and not putting all our eggs in one basket was a blatant lie all along. This offseason has been a total disaster for us.
Glad he wasted all season "scouting" players who were never coming here rather than being realistic, trading all the vets and stockpiling as many draft picks as he could.

We needed a second max caliber player. Kawhi doesn’t seem found of hoping Gallo stays healthy

Gallo should have been traded at the deadline. I can't believe I actually bought into the hype on this dumbass front office.

I get that, but did we really want to pay an injured KD for his past accomplishments when he'll likely sit out one season and have another getting back into shape and then playing the final 2 seasons at maybe 75% of his form? Horford is an overpay while Butler is a chemistry risk. Any of those three would have made sense only as a companion piece and would have been a disaster if they only came by himself. So again I ask, "What would have been the point?"
We have no choice but to wait for Kawhi because he's the only foundational piece in free agency that would have made things work. If we miss out on him, it only makes sense to go back to the drawing board rather than burden ourselves with long-term commitments that wouldn't have gotten us anywhere in the long game.
I can even go Pollyanna and point out that Klay Thompson hasn't actually signed with the Warriors yet, so there may still be a glimmer of hope. But again, even that wouldn't matter because the endgame is Kawhi. Period.
We have the assets to make significant trades for another disgruntled star should one become available down the line. We would even be in play for Giannis Antetokuonmpo if he were to make it to free agency. The point is you don't make a rash move to risk the progress you've already made unless it's a worthwhile gamble.
Look at what the Nets have accomplished today. That was possible only because of a long process of waiting out their previous regime's bad management. The Clippers, on the other hand, were able to put ourselves in this position in less than 2 seasons and yet some fans are acting with a sense of Lakers entitlement and Knicks myopic expectations that we have to do something big or anything to make this off-season a success. Stick to the plan.

Welp, looks like we're finished... All the rumoured players that were possibly coming with Kawhi are gone.... I doubt he signs with the Clips without another top free agent. Dammit...
Return to Los Angeles Clippers
