im not impressed with that video.

popovich has a quote somewhere saying this was the same stuff he was running at pomona pitzer.
now all of a sudden he's a genius.

championship level teams...err...teams that can defend at a championship level know these sets and will disrupt them.
2nd tier teams and below get stretched out by this kinda stuff and end up looking bad.

tongith in the league:

checking for the heat's record.

An offense is as good as the players you have. For example, SA lost to OKC last season more because of their inability to defend them than their offense getting shut down. OKC was a championship level team, though they didn't have a championship level defense.

The whole point of the offense is to put your guys in good position to score and to create easy baskets, but there are principles that you hold your players to that can make it more or less effective. That doesn't mean that your guys still don't have to read and react, make shots and create opportunities. If you give the Bobcats a better offense, they will be better on offense but will still suck. If a better defensive team knows what I want to run, sticks to my shooters hard, it opens up the floor for my slasher and big man because they are working hard to take away my role players shots. When the good team has to work to take away the easier baskets, it opens up the court for my go to guys, and it is up to them to deliver.

When I have nothing to keep the opposing defense occupied, they focus on my go to guys, and they have to deliver with the whole defense watching them and with the floor congested. Life is harder. That's why I've never understood why people thought role players like a Steve Novak have failed when the opposition glues a guy on them, and because they can't create, they don't get many shots off. They haven't failed, they have succeeded in removing one defender from help and giving your other scorers room. Unless you were relying on Novak's scoring to win, which would make you a bad team, he has been successful,

SA vs OKC:

Game 1: 101 pts, 105.3 Ortg
Game 2: 120 pts, 126.2 Ortg
Game 3: 83 pts, 93 Ortg
Game 4: 103 pts, 113.8 Ortg
Game 5: 103 pts, 105.9 Ortg
Game 6: 99 pts, 107.0 Ortg
Avg: 108.5 Ortg

SA's offensive rating last season: 110.9 (1st)
OKC's defensive rating last season: 103.2 (11th)
League Average defensive rating: 104.6

This doesn't negate the fact that the best chance of winning is having a top 5 offense and top 5 defense, but if you don't have Lebron James AND Dwyane Wade or Kevin Durant AND Westbrook / Harden (who was the better player vs SA last season) on your team, an offense that isn't consistently reliant on individual scorers creating is needed. Now, when it breaks down, you want the creator to make something happen, but a one player heavy offense is even easier to contain than a more motion oriented offense with the option of going to one player when needed.

Memphis loses to New Orleans and Denver drops to a Wall-led (47 points, 7 rebounds & 8 assists) Wizard's team, which has put us back into the 3rd spot for the time being.

We're currently 1 full game (+ tiebreaker) ahead of Memphis. Denver has 1 more win, but also 1 more loss than us. In terms of game played, they are tied with us, but we are .005 ahead of them with possession of the tiebreaker.

Dallas is up next for the Clips. They may only be 1.5 games out of the last spot after tonight, so they'll be hungry. What is unfortunate for us is that Paul will be a GTD after bumping knees the other night.

New York is on a 5 game winning streak, I'll give them that, but they haven't been super impressive before that. Both games are on the road for Denver and Memphis though, which is nice. Denver is a <.500 road team, so that bodes well.

Here are the remaining schedules. Denver's is very favorable with 7 at home and 5 on the road. Bold is back to backs. Everyone has the same amount of losses at the moment. If I was to predict,
Denver: 6-4, 7-3 at best, putting them at 55-27 (56-26 at best)
Memphis: 8-4, putting them at 55-27
LA Clippers: 7-4, (9-2 at best) putting the Clips at 55-27 (57-25 at best)

I didn't plan to have all the teams with the same record, it's just how my W/L going through the schedule came out. The Clippers have the easiest schedule because three of the 6 homes games are @New Orleans X 2 and @Sacramento. Teams that can play spoiler, but the Clippers should be able to beat. I'm just going to peg @SA and @Memphis (even though it is a back to back for them) as losses. @Houston is up in the air, and all the home games are winnable with Indiana or LAL being the most difficult ones.

Clippers (49-25)
8 games remaining: 5 Home / 3 Road
Home: 28-8 / Road: 20-15
@ New Orleans - W
@ San Antonio - L
@ Houston -L

vs Indiana
vs Phoenix
vs LA Lakers
vs Minnesota
@ New Orleans
@ Memphis
vs Portland
@ Sacramento

Denver (50-24)
8 games remaining: 5 Home / 3 Road
Home: 32-3 / Road: 17-20
@San Antonio - L
vs Brooklyn - W

@Utah
vs Dallas
vs Houston
vs San Antonio
@ Dallas
vs Portland
@Milwaukee
vs Phoenix

Memphis (49-24)
9 games remaining: 4 Home / 5 Road
Home: 28-8 / Road: 19-15
@New York - L
vs Houston - W
@Minnesota - W

vs San Antonio
@Portland
@LA Lakers
@Sacramento
vs Charlotte
@Houston
vs LA Clippers
@Dallas
vs Utah

big game on friday.

unfortunately, I don't think anybody is going to give us props if we win there for some reason.
maybe it's because Parker is still fresh off injury.

whatever...ppl aren't objective anyway.
grizzlies 2 losses in a row.
5-5 in their last 10.
would love to hear somebody point out their flaws and how because of them they're scared to face this team, that team etc. etc.

Can't really blame them for hopping on, it's sort of their job as a media outlet. I think people get too bent up about what ESPN is doing, they are there to make money, and they know what things will accomplish that the best.

Still got a bit obnoxious and repetitive

In other news
In the last 11 games Evans is averaging 8.6 points (shooting 53.1 percent from the floor) and 16.4 rebounds. Wednesday in Portland Evans scored 22 points and grabbed a career-high 26 rebounds. It is the seventh time this season that he's had at least 20 rebounds in a game.

That'd be nice to have right about now

Reggie is an enigma, there's a love hate relationship with him and fans. People love his energy and intensity and rebounding, but there's always a hate for his space clogging, no offense by fans, and whenever he starts getting more than mid teens in minutes, complaints start to flow. For example, even though his play, Brooklyn fans are still calling for a different starting PF because he hurts the offense and even though his rebounding is so good, they say defensively he's just stealing everyone else's rebounds anyways.

He's been playing well lately though, really good stuff by him. It would definitely be nice to have him off the bench for a few minutes here and there to increase the energy level

Can't afford him unless we are deciding not to bring Paul back, so sadly, no, not an option at all :(

i think we should worry about the 1st round cuz it looks like we can't even get passed that with how our guys are playing.
