Not knowing the actual intracacies of the NBA didn't stop Ballmer from extending Doc's contract the minute he bought the team. He shouldn't get a pass now for refusing to change what clearly isn't working. Especially since he has more NBA experience now than he did back then.

Doesn't he compare notes with Portland's owner?

18 points in the 4th, carried them offensively the last two games, but remember, choker and not clutch

We'll see. Game 5 up 3-1 is hardly a clutch situation. Look, I was a 100% CP supporter, first ballot HOF, Clippers GOAT. But right now, esp the way he went out, I feel...nothing.

Maybe if he beats the Evil Empire. We'll see. I don't blame him for leaving but it's also interesting that Clipper Nation, from org to players to fans [exc for Brother Wammy] weren't very upset about it.

BTW, sound familiar?

Wizards' John Wall, Bradley Beal must put aside 'tendency to dislike each other on the court'

John Wall wants Wizards to add athletic bigs, depth this offseason

That all sounds good, but it’s going to be far more challenging to pull off than Wall may realize.

With Wall, Bradley Beal, and Otto Porter locked in as max contracts, Washington has a top-heavy payroll and $115.9 million on the books in guaranteed contracts for just eight players next season (Ian Mahinmi, Marcin Gortat, Markieff Morris, Tomas Satoransky, and Kelly Oubre are the others). The salary cap next season is expected to be about $101 million. That means the Wizards have no cap space to go out and add free agents (outside of guys at the mid-level exception or at the minimum).

This is a roster that will pay the luxury tax this season with the fifth highest payroll in the league and will be pushing it again next season (the tax line is expected to be at about $121 million), and for the two seasons after that when Wall’s super-max extension kicks in. Plus this summer, Oubre is eligible for a contract extension off his rookie deal.

Doc is respected, they probably had some conversations and Doc is a good convincer as we've seen even with players, so it's not too surprising that Doc got the extension early. That said, why should Ballmer believe its not working now though? Doc is out of the front office, he believes that wasn't working and made the move. In terms of coaching, however we want to narrate it, and whether we agree or not, the general consensus has been the Doc did a very good coaching job this season, even West said that, the media has said it, so why should Ballmer conclude otherwise?

You have to be able to see that. Again, this isn't about whether you or I agree, but how Ballmer would see it. So I can certainly understand why he would see Doc as worth extending.

Like I said though, if Ballmer did this it also means smarter guys like West were not pushing for Doc to be let go.

There were certainly people upset about it, but who cares, that doesn't even matter. Paul on the Clippers is a totally different roster situation than Paul with Houston and that's ignoring Harden being better than Griffin, the rest of their roster is far better than anything we ever had, especially defensively and when it comes to size. We didn't really have the pieces to easily build anything similar with him and a large contract.

Also up 3-1 and game 5 not being a clutch situation is likely what they were saying in 2015 vs Houston and what OKC was saying vs GS and what GS was saying vs Cleveland. Close out games can always be "clutch" because the opposing team is playing with a do or die mentality, and it is a possibility for a momentum or strategical shift, or even something like their shooters getting hot and yours going cold the next two games. We kind of jokingly said that Paul went to Houston to be carried by Harden, but they have shared the load and he was the one that carried them on offense on the road in Utah for game 4 to go up 3-1 and then again in the closeout game at home where teams can get a little bit lackadaisical. If Clippers had the wing size and overall defensive versatility Houston has this season, those previous Clippers teams, barring any injured hamstrings, twisted ankles, broken toe, broken finger, etc would have had better regular season records first of all, which gives them better matchups and been able to do this too. Then suddenly Paul and Griffin would be more clutch in the eyes of all.

Anyways, you're reading too much into a tongue in cheek comment. I've always maintained that clutch or not clutch narratives are extremely flimsy and too many times don't rely on player performance as much as on end result. The majority of the time the players on the better team seem to have a better track record of being more clutch irrespective of actual performance.

yes, see above re The Wiz
probably the Raptors too
and the Blazers

and WTF with OKC

mismatched marriages seem to be the rule

anyway, just sayin' I don't really feel anything re CP, which I'm a little surprised at
I do think he went to HOU to be 1A, not #2
and Harden takes the pressure off him more than BG

but let's see once they play a GSW team that finally has a reason to play at full speed

I'm genuinely interested to compare how well Chris was received in the Clipper's locker room vs. how he was received in NOLA and how he is received in Houston.

Budenholzer to the Bucks.

Nice down payment on Middleton re-signing there summer 2019.

Rockets did it, and in blowout fashion. Box score says CP had a fairly decent game, but actual game play says the man was a lot more than pretty decent, really controlled the pace pushing it often and his defense was great. Rockets role players really put in work with cuts, making shots, etc.

Is it actually going to be a series? We'll see, I like to be entertained...

Lowry and DeRozan vs Giannis and Middleton? Easy choice for me if I'm a coach.
