The Los Angeles Clippers today relieved Kim Hughes of his duties as interim head coach. The remaining members of the team's coaching staff will remain in their current roles at this time.

"We appreciate Kim's contributions during his time here especially over the last two and a half months,” stated Clippers’ President Andy Roeser. “But we also know that our responsibility is to do what is in the organization's immediate best interests for its ability to move forward. This season was an overall disappointment and certainly fell short of both our expectations and what should rightly have been anticipated by our fans. We will move deliberately and productively to regain the successful competitive position we had all hoped for when this past season began."

"We think our situation is extremely attractive, both from the standpoint of the talented and popular core of players who are already under contract, as well as the salary cap flexibility we have created for this summer,” Roeser continued. “Los Angeles is a great city, we have total support from our ownership, our facilities are state of the art and we are blessed with a tremendous fan base."

I think it sorta shows that we are in the right direction. At this point its a good call to fire Hughes and not wait until the decision on the new coach

I think we all knew this was going to happen since his coaching record wasn't all that good and we were always talking about other potential coaching candidates.

This was the right move. I only hope that we hire a coach that can get the most productivity out of our players, particularly Baron Davis. Since we have him under contract for another three years I would love for him to be putting up numbers like this: 17PPG, 9APG, 2SPG, along with great defense and good shot selection. Sports Illustrated recently featured an article on Atlanta Hawks' Josh Smith and they wrote about how much better Smith has gotten since he stopped trying to shoot three point shots. Perhaps an improvement can be seen in Baron as well if he also followed suit. :-?

It's completely understandable that the organization would make this move, but at the sametime, I feel kind of bad for the guy. Him stepping up as head coach was kind of a double edged sword: don't take the head coaching gig, you may never get another chance; if you do it, it's almost career suicide.

I hope he gets a real chance at a head coaching position in the near future, and here's hoping to a successful 10-11 season.

No surprised, but i also feel bad for him, as there was virtually no way he was going to keep the job past the season. Seems like a pretty nice guy as well (from the various midgame-postgame interviews), but its very difficult to change the culture within a team with half a seasons time.

Someone on a facebook page said this isn't surprising, as he apparently said or did something to upset a few people at fan event. Anyone know anything about that?

He was a dead man walking. It was a bad situation to walk into, but he was given a chance that he may never be given again. I love the man's brutal honesty. He is kind of like Kaman in that regard. He's not really going to sugarcoat it too much, he's just going to be straightforward as he sees it.

I hope the best for him in the future, wherever he ends up.
