Forever I Leave Atlanta (FILA)

Joe Johnson booed off the court. He's done in Atlanta. He should be our #1 target. We're not getting Wade, Bosh, or Lebron. Don't even waste the jet fuel.

Agreed, Joe Johnson would definitely be the right piece to our team.

I'd rather go after Rudy Gay. He'll be only 24 when the season starts and by the time his contract expires, he'll be 29, which is the prime of his career. He still can only get better and can grow with our young core with Blake, EJ, DeAndre, and our lottery pick #8.

Just get the right coach to lead this team and we are looking at quite possibly one of the most explosive and athletic starting lineups in the NBA.

PG-Baron Davis
SG-Eric Gordon
SF-Rudy Gay
PF-Blake Griffin
C-Chris Kaman/DeAndre Jordan

I'm not too interested in either. Gay is younger, but he's pretty much one dimensional. He can still improve, and his youth means that he'll likely be more productive in the long run and probably easier to trade in the latter years of the contract (if necessary).

I don't believe that Johnson is worth the max as a player and his age just makes it even worse. The positive thing about adding him is that he offers a few things that would truly benefit us and that is somebody that can spread the floor, play multiple positions, run the offense in spurts, and carry the load when needed (unless it's the playoffs). The fact that he can play 1-3 is the difference maker for me.

Gay is another Maggette/Thornton.

If we could sign JJ and trade BDavis and get Jack to run the point it'd be marvelous. I've posted this idea earlier in that other thread.

I am for trying to get Joe Johnson on our team. Like you guys have said Gay is basically a scorer and that's it. I say we go for Johnson but not offer him a max contract.

Joe Johnson just proved he hisn't the high caliber player that some thought he was. I don't want him.

My preference:

1. Amare
2. Dirk
3. Bosh
4. Gay

jj isnt a max player or clear 1st option. he is however a great passer, good defender and great shooter. something we could use at our sf position.

amare is a more onde dimensional copy of griffin, bosh ditto, dirk wont leave dallas and gay is another maggette. how would any of those fit in with griffin here and us trying to build a winner?

If we absolutely have to sign someone, then Johnson makes the most sense. He will fill our biggest need, a versatile swingman. It's unfortunate that he's pretty much the only option, because it means someone will overpay for him, and it might be us. It's all about supply and demand.

I remember hearing about this some where. I hope that Johnson does consider us since the wiretap says that he has interest in Miami.

See,the thing with Joe Johnson is a team that strikes out on LeBron, Wade and the rest of the marquee guys will give him the max, and he simply is not worth that much (unless its just for three years). Don't really want Gay either, would much prefer keeping Outlaw or bringing in Ronnie Brewer. I'm sure Yaroslav Korolev is still a free agent as well

He's definitely not my first choice, but I'm not a fan of Outlaw either (at least after what he has shown here). I just hope we don't jump the gun and sign someone just to sign. If we strike out on worthy free-agents we should need to look into acquiring a key piece through trade or scale down our expectations and look to add solid rotation pieces.

How is he another Maggs/Thornton? Both of them combined couldn't do what JJ does.

At the same time, we're looking at the number 8 draft pick, so if we can either draft Wesley Johnson or Al-Farouq Aminu, then the team won't even have to consider Joe Johnson.

Instead, IMO it's a bit more ideal to try and draft one of those two guys and then try to resign Butler AND Outlaw. Since Butler is a swingman he can play SG as well, so having a rotation of Gordon, Outlaw, Butler, and W. Johnson/Aminu could be a pretty powerful rotation at the 2&3. It's also a safer and cheaper bet than offering J. Johnson a max contract.
