Would the addition of Tyson Chandler help the Clippers?
Kaman has proven that he can play w/ another big (Camby)
Kaman + Chandler + Griffin backed up by Deandre
Can this work? It would be a big front line w/some athletic players
I think Griffin could excel as a big powerful 3
It would also allows up to draft a 2/3 combo & still have some free agent $$$$$

Thoughts

How would we get him? If he opts out of his contract (as has been reported - I don't know why he would walk away from all that $$$), would this be a wise way to use our cap space? If he doesn't opt out, who would we trade? (Baron?)

Camby has an outside jumper, Tyson chandler does not. If not for CP3, tyson chandler would be a nobody. He's also an injury risk as well.

Only if he agrees to sign for the league minimum and Kaman has been used to acquire a solid SF.

I don't know why he would opt out of $12M. He may not like it in Charlotte, but he's not going to get that type of money anywhere else. I would only take him if he does opt out and would be willing to give us an extremely generous hometown discount. Although, if he was willing to do that, he'd probably end up on the Lakers.

There's a lockout coming next offseason and that's why many of those guys are opting out and willing to "leave some money on the table".

It's been talked about a lot of cuts in salaries and even a hard cap and if that happens those guys would have to take a huge paycut.

So it might be better for him to opt out of those guaranteed $12 mil, cause something like a 5 year and $30 mil deal would be better then $12 mil next year and about $10 - $15 mil those next four years.


Anyways, the only way we should look into Chandler is if we're trading Kaman for a sf and are searching for someone at the center position. And even then i'd look at some other options first, because of Chandlers injury history and limited offensive game.

If we sign him it would have to be for cheap. I'm sure he may want around $7 million

It's a risk worth taking for him imo. Even with the impending lockout, that $12 million would account for more than 2 seasons under a 5 year/$30M deal in which he would likely lose out on the 2nd year automatically since he wouldn't be getting paid during the down time. He'd still only be 28 next year if things were settled early, 29 if it went longer than hoped. He is heading into this offseason after 2 injury plagued seasons and an evident drop-off in his performance. Nobody is going to be ready to break the bank for him long term with what he has shown as of late. If he keeps his $12M, he'd have that guaranteed with the opportunity to prove that he's healed and ready to contribute, which would be better for him in the long run.

Now, if he comes back (without opting out) and continues the downward trend, then he has shot himself in the foot. Under that circumstance, I would agree that it would be in his best interest to get what he can, while he can.

His value is at an all time low really. I don't see any possible way he will opt out, because he has yet to prove that a.) He's healthy enough to contribute, and b.) that he can still be a solid player without cp3 feeding him dunks. It would be pretty difficult for him to even get a 5 year 30 mil contract with his current value imo. Hes on the last year of his contract, and supposedly healthy, so he should stay with it, earn his 12 mil, and use that opportunity to increase his value and work towards a new contract.
