Anyone else a little sad that we aren't pursuing Iggy?
I really do believe that the pros of obtaining Iggy would outweigh the cons...
Pros
- I believe Iggy is the third best SF behind Lebron and Mello.
- We wouldn't have to trade any of our core players in order to obtain Iggy since the 76er's just want to get rid of him due to drafting Evan Turner.
- He's still young and in his prime, and Iggy would almost ensure us a playoff spot
- Iggy is a beast, he's like the poor man's Lebron
- We obviously have a huge hole in the SF position, and Iggy would make our weakest position a strength
Cons
- His massive contract
- If by some odd reason he weren't performing up to par, we'd be stuck with a huge contract that would be difficult to move, and it could make our future look bleak.
- Like many superstars that ended up on the Clippers, he might not play his best.
- If we were to obtain Iggy, I'm sure the 76'ers would ask for some of our rookies such as DeAndre Jordan and future first round picks, which would definitely effect our future.
Looking at the pros and cons, I wish we got Iggy! I know his contract his massive, but this guy is a beast on the offensive end and defensive end. But O well, I'm going to trust the Clippers management on not pursuing him.

I am STOKED that we are not pursuing Iggy.
Big FAt contract and limited defense.
We do need a three, that lazy Cat from WF has no work ethic.

I'd be ok with iggy, but we would need to hire someone that screams obscenities at him anytime he chucks up a 3. We should have hired this guy for baron already, but with iggy as well, if we didn't have that guy my tv probably wouldn't survive the season.

Iggy...limited defense? I'd say that his defense is one of the things that would be more enticing about bringing him on, along with the fact that he is an athletic all-around player (ball handling, passing, scoring & rebounding). He can't shoot, but I would love to have him. I don't think he's number 3 (LBJ, Durant/Melo), but you can make a case for him anywhere from 4-7 along with Pierce, Granger and Wallace. I personally don't believe that he's that available right now. If I was Philly, I'd try to play him and Turner together before making a decision to move Iggy. His contract is not the greatest, but it's not so bad after seeing some of the contracts that were handed out this year.
Comparable SF Salaries For 2010-11 season:
J. Johnson - $16,324,500
Pierce - approx. $15M/yr
Gay - $13,603,750
Iguodala - $12,345,250
Deng - $11,345,000
Granger - $10,973,202
Wallace - $10,500,000
Granger and Wallace have more favorable contracts, but they're not available. Also, if you take into consideration games played, Iggy has played all 82 games 5 of his 6 seasons with 76 in his 3rd season. Wallace's last five seasons has been 55, 72, 62, 71 & 76. Granger only missed 6 games in his first 3 seasons, but has missed 15 & 20 in the last 2.
It would have been easier to acquire somebody like Iggy before we started signing guys, especially ones named Cook. Now, we'd probably have to move Kaman for him, then we would have a hole at center with only DJ and only BG having anything close to resembling center size.
I was hoping for us to absorb a player like him after missing out in Free-Agency, but I just don't see it happening at this point.

Yeah I would have loved to have Iggy. His contract isn't nearly as bad as alot of small forwards out there and he rarely missed games.
If the Clippers win the championship next year I'm getting banned from RealGM

Re: Anyone else a little sad that we aren't pursuing Iggy?
I'm not sad we don't pursue Iggy.
I wouldn't have minded going after him when we still had all of that cap space, but that isn't going to work out anymore.
Like mk said, we'd probably have to trade Kaman to get Iggy and i wouldn't do that as it would create a huge hole at center for us, cause I don't think DJ will develop into anything great or even a starting center in this league, a Kaman for Iggy swap would hurt us more than it would help.
Could we please, at least, give our rookie some time or even wait till we see him in a real NBA game before we start throwing him under the bus?
I mean, i don't expect him to set the world on fire or to become an all-star caliber player in this league, but i don't like it when he's been given nearly no chance at all.
I also don't know what you base this on, because i don't think anyone can say that Aminu's got no work ethic, after him not even being with the club for a single month. After all, work ethic is something that shows improvement within a longer period of time, as guys(with a good work ethic) get better year after year.

It wouldn't be worth it for what they'd probably have to give up.
Additionally, he is NOT the third best 3 in the NBA. You really think he is better than Durant? Pierce?

I'd be happy if we would have gotten Iggy after all those big free agents were signed. I'm not diggin tha contract though. T-mac is still available along with Josh Howard, so we can still sign someone at the SF spot.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

Nah, Rudy Gay is more of a complete player imo. Iggy is nothing more than athleticism.

Re: Anyone else a little sad that we aren't pursuing Iggy?
I like having the cap space in our back pocket to absorb salary if/when a big name player hits the market. Gomes is a suitable option at SF for a young team like the Clippers who are seemingly on the rise. I like having the flexibility to add that last piece when comes along rather than rush into taking on a long contract like Iguodala's.

Yeah I completely forgot about Durant for a minute, but other then Durantula I do believe iggy is at the very least better than Paul Pierce.

Maybe at the trade deadline (when our Clippers and the Sixers are both out of the playoff race), they'll be willing to do a trade of Kaman/Gomes for Iggy/Hawes

You concern about the future, but if you don't even have today, why look into the future?
It's not like you already having a great team or something.

If someone who does not play defense and does not pass is complete, I'd say Gay is just that.
