Clippers Annual Malibu White Party

Post#1 » by JJ LoDuca » Sat Sep 25, 2010 7:20 pm

Has anyone ever been to one of these before? I got an invite to this year's just yesterday, and a small-time fan like me has no idea what it's all about. I've gathered that guests are required to wear all white, and that it takes place at DTS's Malibu mansion...but that's it. Is any RealGM-er going? I heard it's for the high-end season ticket holder fans, who drop major bills on their tix. Anybody know anything about this affair?

I guess my 8 years & 4 seats in Sec. 302 doesn't get me an invite?

^ I heard of a dude who's had 2 seats in Sec 101 for like 10 years and hasn't gotten an invite ever...And of a guy who had seats for 15 years and never got an invite, but the season after he dropped his season tix, got one. I dunno how it works at all lol. The only reason I'm going is because it's one of those "I know a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy..." kind of things.

There's a couple of season ticket holders on other Clipper boards/blogs that are going. One of which had a hard time finding white pants lol.

I heard about that dude too. They're trying to reel him back in.

Here's a clip of a white party charity event that the Donald, Blake & Dunleavy were at last year. I don't think it was a Clippers sponsored event, but they were represented there.

Have a good time :)

I know... Most people only know about him as being racist, so if this isn't a case of low hanging fruit, I don't know what is.

Do you have to be white? or do you have to wear white? :D

its pretty much just like in the video. my uncle (he is not even a basketball fan) went to a party at Sterlings house and said it was a really good party.
have fun at the party!

Here's a video that DJ posted on his Twitter page. The veterans made the rookies dance. AFA, Bledsoe, Warren, Blakely and Scheyer do the Cha Cha slide.

I was lucky (?) enough to witness this. I got to meet the entire team basically--all were surprisingly nice. Eric Gordon was by far my favorite to talk to though, he's like a month older than me so that may have contributed; we were easily some of the youngest people there (minus the rookies). Griffin was another fun one to talk to. Baron, Rasual, Craig, and the rest of the "old" guys were less chatty (with me) and a bit more like "take your picture/get your autograph and move on," but they were all polite. And then there was Kaman--who is a different story all together. Nice enough, but whatever medication he's on--he needs more! :)

Many of you know I'm a huge Ralph Lawler fan, so the highlight of my day was meeting him. They say to never meet your heroes because you'll only be disappointed, but Ralph was amazing! He's as kind as anyone I've ever met and I enjoyed talking to him so much.

As the night wore on, I got to see Del Negro, Olshey, and another front-office type (not sure who it was exactly) drunk. That made it well worth the trip.

Why do you have to list Craig with the old guys? He only has me by a few months. I still feel young.

That's really cool. I'm glad that they were interactive like that. I could be wrong, but I have a good feeling about this group coming into the season. I'm expecting them to gel nicely. They seem to have a lot of fun and the balance between young and "less young" :) should keep things lighthearted off the court. On the court, there's still enough vets and mature younger players to keep the rookies on the right path and to help transition them into the league.

Ralph is that dude. I would love to meet him one day. He is the Clippers period.

That's hilarious  I heard that Vinny promised a minimum of 40 wins. Was that comment made while he was still sober?

Sounds like a great experience, thanks for sharing it with the board. I also think we have a good mix of players and I hope that they are developing chemistry since they have all been working out together for most of the month. I can't wait for things to get started.

Thanks for sharing JJ. I guess for the young guys, having fans is a new thing to them, but maybe the older players have experienced it for a few years now, and grow a bit tired of it. And it's cool that you got to meet Lawler. He's a huge part of the Clippers, and I'm glad that he's a part of the organization.

Clipper Dave must have been there. It would've been funny if he busted out a Let's go Clippers, Let's go!

Actually, Clipper Darrell's absence was quite glaring...although, honestly, I didn't notice that he wasn't there until today when someone asked me whether he was. But ya know, I've seen Clipper D around town a few times this offseason, and he's rubbed me the wrong way each time...I dunno exactly why, but I'm not such a fan anymore. Ever since that Dallas fiasco, really. Dallas Darrell, I call him.

I didn't hear the 40 wins comment! I would've remembered that for sure. There was a time when Vinny D was on the mic giving a little speech, and it's possible I missed something. Of course that was at the same time Sterling said he was "committed to winning," so I might've been to busy  -ing to hear.

I even got his name wrong. Damn Chris Webber for calling him Clipper Dave and having it forged in my memory...

If this was a white party why did the coach and some players wear black? I'm not sure I liked the look of everything looking almost all white. Just a lil strange to me.

Del Negro and the rookies only wore those black polos for the introductions. Sterling wore all black the whole time, naturally..... The white was so damn bright, even after the sun went down I kept my sunglasses on for a little bit, lol. It was strange, but felt very posh!
