I was thinking about superteam scenarios.... and if the Clippers do nothing and flip Baron Davis into a 2012 expiring, you would have cap space in 2012 for 2 max players and resign Eric Gordon.
CP3 / Eric Gordon / SF / Blake Griffin / Dwight Howard looks unbeatable.
Are you looking into that possiblity?

I don't really see Baron being moved for an expiring. If it were to happen, it would have to be to a contending team (i.e. Miami, Orlando, Boston, Bulls, Lakers, Spurs, Mavs, etc.). The teams that could use him don't really have the contracts. The others have legit pg's already or he doesn't fit their system.
Having a player like Blake does improve this organization's chances of attracting better free-agents than in past years. I would love to have any of Howard, Paul or Williams join Gordon and Griffin on this team, but Howard would be my top choice. Defense is what wins championships and having him patrol the paint would be huge for us. On offense, the defenses have at least 3 guys that would command a double team. That would be a beautiful thing.
My main concern right is to see us lock up Gordon and Griffin long-term as soon as it is possible. After that, then else is gravy. Sterling and the front office have to show the commitment to building a winning team. Once they do that, other players will think a little harder about possibly bringing their talents Playa Vista.

Yeah, moving Baron might not be easy... the Knicks gave away 2 picks for someone to take Jared Jeffries of their hands last year. And the chances that Howard and CP3 (or D-Will) decide to join forces in Clipperland might be slim; but it is and enticing possibility. I think it would be much more balanced than current Miami Heat.

It should be an interesting 2012 offseason for sure, the Clippers will have seen another year of development for Aminu and Bledsoe and will have just selected a player using the Minny pick in the 2012 draft. I would hope that DeAndre Jordan will have been resigned as well by that point, as long as the contract makes sense. Gomes would have another year left on his contract, maybe he could be moved for some additional cap space. He wouldn't be easy to move, but at least he would be easier to trade than Davis. The contracts of both Kaman and Foye will be off the books, unless they are traded before then. I could see them having the cap space to go after at least one max FA during that offseason, but not two.

Gomes would probably have to be packaged with some incentive to move for cap room. I think that we can manage one max, but a lot of that depends on the new CBA and the cap. I like our young players, but I'd be move some if we had the chance to grab a big time free-agent in 2012.
