VDN confirms that Chris Kaman is on the trade block

Per his very recent comments. Currently, my targets are Melo, Granger and Wallace, in that order, although I don't know who or what they are targeting. Whether we get one of them is another story.

So sick of Kaman. Get an upgrade and move on.

Anything of value would be better than him on the bench or at home watching the game .

I didn't really read too much into that comment when I initially read it. Basically any player is tradeable if it makes the team better.

I am a fan of Chris, but he doesn't really fit into the direction that the team is taking. I don't see him lasting long term. I would be surprised if he's moved by the deadline, but I also don't see him on the team a year from now. This summer he's going to become an expiring contract and that is going to make him attractive to other teams, one way or another.

I would love to see us make an upgrade with a serious piece coming back in return, but I also have my eyes on 2012 when Chris comes off the books. Dwight, Deron and Paul will all be free-agents and could be looking to test the waters (or jump right in for that matter). Our rookies, Blake, EJ, DJ, Baron and Gomes will be the only current Clippers under contract. Our 2011 draft pick along with any other long-term free-agents that we may sign this summer could also be on the books. Having an elite point guard or center along with our young core makes us a championship contender. If Dwight, Deron or Paul opt out and feel that they need to move on from their current teams, then I like us as a possible destination. We'd be in a much better situation than we were this past summer. Blake is the type of player that other good players would want to play with, and to top it off you have an amazing young SG in EJ. That's a recipe for success imo.

Hmm....that's interesting.

Vinny telling folks that he wouldn't mind a deal of Kaman should mean that we're really looking what's out there.

Though, I really don't like the pieces available as they either don't really fit what we're looking for(neither Iggy, nor Wallace can shoot), are free agents at the end of the year(Prince or Battier) or looking for pricey extensions(Green).

The only guy I could see us trading for is Iggy, but only if they're willing to take on Gomes as well.

It's also not helpful that Kaman hasn't played since November.

I don't think we're going to be in position to make a run at max type free agents in 2012.

Baron will still be on the books, while DJ would have his extension(at least MLE type of salary) in place and Griffin's new contract would kick in 2013.

If there's a chance to improve our team while using Kaman we should do it and not look at some free agency classes down the road IMO.

We tried the superstar thing did not work at all. I believe Deron-Resigns, Chris-NYK, Dwight- hopefully anywhere except the Lakers.

Why is Granger on the block (or mentioned so much in trade rumors)? I don't think they are trying to dump him, and would want value back.

I'm not sure what what kind of trade would be roughly equal value with the Pacers, but since we have an extra 1st I would be willing to add on our side to get Granger. I think he would be a great inside out duo with Blake. We don't need Granger to get 25 PPG again, just the current 20 PPG with hopefully higher FG% would be wonderful.

The superstar thing never works for the Clippers, except maybe in Sterling's fantasies.

EDIT- I think Granger is somewhat overpaid, but not so much so. His salary is close to Kaman's so that is nice for any potential trade. I don't know what a team would really be trading for in Kaman though- short contract? Hopefully a quality NBA center when he is healthy again? Potentially cheap re-sign?

A lot will depend on the salary cap ramifications of the new CBA, but I think that we'll be in the position to have a legitimate shot at a big time free-agent. Right now, we don't have that many players under contract. Even with DJ getting re-signed and EJ getting extended or matched, we would still have a decent amount of cap space. Aside from those 2, Baron and Gomes, the rest are on rookie deals. We would potentially find ourselves dumping Gomes along with some of our rookie deal players to free up cap space, and that is definitely possible.

As far striking out on big time free-agents in the past, this is a different team and the past is the past. Going into last summer Gordon was putting up 17 and BG was a rookie coming off of a season long injury. Now they are a 24 point scorer and a player having one of the best rookie seasons in the last 20 some-odd years. That is a huge difference and a lot more enticing than the " what-ifs" we had going for us last summer (i.e. if Baron is motivated, if Kaman can stay healthy, if Gordon can take a leap after a so-so sophomore year, if Blake can stay healthy, etc.).

I would move Kaman now if we could genuinely improve the team in a significant way. Marginal upgrades, I would pass on. What is the market for Kaman right now? We can want to move him all we want to, but there has to be buyers. We're likely not going to get that this season. The offseason and next season could very well be a different story. We would then have a little more time to gauge the climate of those possible free-agents sticking with their current teams or jumping ship.

I'd love to get Granger if possible, but i find it hard to see why any team would want Kaman at the moment; his trade value hasn't been any lower, and hes an known injury risk.

Since 07-08, the number of games he played each season: 56,31,76 and 10 this year. so 3/4 years since then have been injury plagued.

Indy, Philly or Detroit are the only teams stupid enough to take him so we might as well focus our attention on Granger, Iggy or Prince

I would take Gerald Wallace from the Bobcats or Shane Battier from the Rockets.

I'm not so sure about the Battier idea. We need a guy who can legitimately create his own shot. He would be a good addition, as far as improving our team in general, however, not the addition that would transform this franchise.

Wallace maybe(he just can't shoot from the outside) and Battier no.

Of course guys like Battier and Prince would be great fits, but those two are on expiring deals and could just leave to sign with a contender this summer.
And if they're really interested to play for the Clips, they'd certainly sign with us during the offseason.

I also believe our needs have upgraded before all we wanted was a guy who could hit the 3 and defend. Now itlooks likewe need a guy who can shoot, score, defend, rebound, and maybe at times create for.others

We'd be throwing in pick(s) on our side. If we were to get Granger soon, we'd still likely be a lottery team with a lottery pick, another option is the Minny pick. Yet another option is Aminu.

I would put together a package for Granger involving Kaman and Aminu for example. Granger is an outside shooter at the forward position which is exactly what we need.

But yeah, not sure what the attraction for other teams to Kaman would be right now...

Disclaimer.. Portland fan here with what I hope is a respectful trade idea.. I am trying to figure out how to get Chris K. to Portland with a trade that will kelp both teams and make everyone happy.

This trade idea will land the Clippers
1) $8.6+ million next year in cap space through expiring contracts
2) Outside shooter and help at the SF position
3) 1st round draft pick
4) $3 million in cash

Clippers trade Kaman

Portland trades:
Center Joel Prysbilla ($7.4 million EC),
Center Sean Marks who is immediately cut unless you have room for him ($1.2 million EC) Sean’s salary is needed to make this trade work.
Either Rudy Fernandez, or, our first round 16th pick from last years draft, Luke Babbitt. Luke is a sharpshooting SF that needs time on the floor, which he does not get behind Batum and Fernandez.
New Orleans’s first round draft pick.
$3 million in cash, not my money so I threw it in.. Not sure Cho and Paul Allen will go for this.

Chris will fit in nice with the Blazer’s injured center carousel.

We need a small forward.

Our best bet right now would be to dump Chris Kaman for Gerald Wallace and a filler (Livingston?) This gives us some good defense moving forward, while sparking our offense with his high flying dunks.

I would like to do that with Rudy (I'm not very familiar with Babbit), as I'd love to see Rudy get out in the open floor and see what he can do in a team that plays a higher pace and more athletic style of game. Marks would be cut, and you can take him back if you need him for a few minutes a night.

Problem is, our line up would be too crowded with guys looking for minutes. We'd have to unload the likes of Butler, and possibly Warren:

Baron / Bledsoe / (Warren)
Gordon / Foye / Rudy
Gomes / Aminu / (Butler)
Griffin / Smith / Cook
Jordan / Ike / (Pryzbilla exp)

Iggy would be best fit for the CLIPS....
