OT: Rockets sign Marqus Blakely to Multi-Year Deal

Rockets reach deal with Blakely out of NBDL

The Rockets reached agreement with Marqus Blakely, a 6-5 forward with the Iowa Energy of the NBA Development League, on a three-year, non-guaranteed contract, a person with knowledge of the decision said.

Blakely, who averaged 15 points on 62.5 percent shooting and 6.3 rebounds in the D-League this season with Iowa and Bakersfield, will join the Rockets in Minneapolis for the season's last game. He will replace Mike Harris, whose second 10-day contract has expired, on the Rockets roster.

Like Harris, Blakely is working to convert from a power forward game to being more of a small forward.

I didn't think he would get a multi-year deal without playing in the league a little bit. But good for Blakely, I was hoping we would have kept him after training camp. He could get some better opportunities with the Rockets. I hope it works out for him.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

I'm happy for him, but he still has a road ahead of him in terms of making the team.

I liked Marqus, but he has a lot of work to do. He played the 4 in college, but his size (6'5.5") is forcing him to shift to the 3 in the pros. He's a tremendous athletic, a great rebounder and a good defender, but is lacking in terms of ball-handling and shooting.
