It's obvious the Clips have a glaring hole at the SF spot. Gomes is trash and Aminu is maybe 2-3 years away from ready. So in scouring the FA pool, these are potential candidates:

Jeff Green - if he even qualifies as a 3, he'd be a nice addition. Can anyone vouch if he can play that position well?

Caron Butler - don't know how much juice(hyuck hyuck) he has left.

Tayshaun Prince - exactly what the Clips need, but his age is an issue.

Reggie Williams - had a breakout season, but is he a product of his (high-paced) environment?

Mike Dunleavy - don't really wanna see that name ever again in Clipper land.

Shane Battier - see Tayshaun Prince

Thad Young - fits the mold of the Clips roster...young, athletic, talented. Problem is he's an RFA and don't know how much Philly is willing to give him.

CJ Miles - team option, which the Jazz will probably pick up. But if they don't...would be a nice acquisition.

Andrei Kirilenko - also another well-rounded swingman the Clips could use. But age and $ factor in. How much will he demand?

Would like to see any input you guys have.

I like Battier and Prince. We have enough youth on this team. We need savvy vets that have playoff experience. Oh, I like Grant Hill too.

If we go the trade route, I like Rudy Fernandez or Casspi.

If you listen to Eric Pincus, the Clippers aren't interested in Jeff Green or Wilson Chandler, and then players like Prince, Battier & Kirilenko don't fit the current direction (youth) of the team.

Aminu may be the player that we need eventually, but that may not happen until he's entering the final year of his rookie contract. We could give a free agent a long-term deal and then wind up with a great SF prospect with the Minny pick. Because of that, I'm kind of conflicted. We can't sign anybody until a new CBA is established, so we'll know if there's going to be a mandatory 2-year rule for the draft. If there isn't, then I'd probably be conservative in a SF signing this summer.

Kirilenko has been largely rumored to be going to the Nets and primarily due to Prohkorov. He has that all around game that we desire, but he has played his best at PF. Any veteran that we get, I'd want him to have some kind of mental toughness and some form of leadership qualities. I can't shake how he broke down a couple of years ago as his role with the team changed. He's going to be looking for long term security, and I just don't think we need to do that unless the player we get will hold up and be a key factor for the majority of his contract.

Battier would be great, but I just don't see him coming to Clippers. He's the quintessential glue guy, but are fans going to complain when we don't have any scorers that can help Gordon and Griffin? He fits the model of character, work ethic and attitude that the organization is trying to build. I just see him looking to play for a contender at this point in his career. He's had moderate success, but was never really in a situation where his team was a real contender.

Dunleavy would not come here unless he wanted to be disowned by his dad. He's too injury prone anyway and that is definitely not what we need moving forward.

Butler could very well be re-signed by Cuban if he is able to come back healthy and make a difference in the playoffs.

Williams would be probably be nice coming off the bench. It would be great to have a shooter like him, but would he remember how to shoot after joining the Clips?

After drafting Evan Turner, it looked like there was going to be a decision to be made between Young and Iggy. Young had a nice year coming off of the bench, but how much is he worth to the 6ers? He's clearly outperformed Iggy in the playoffs. The knock that I have against him is that he has logged most of his mins at the 4 spot during his career and that he leaves a lot to be desired from the perimeter. If this team goes with DJ as our center, then we need shooters to spread the floor.

I'm kind of indifferent on Jeff Green. He fits in with the youth movement. OKC had him playing out of position and he has a completely different role in Boston. Perhaps, he'd a feel a bit more comfortable in a more natural position with a defined role. I just don't like the inconsistency from the perimeter. We need a player that can shoot. I'd be cool if we got him at a bargain, but I wouldn't break the bank for him.

Prince is a player that I think we could sign. He's another glue guy and he has playoff experience. He's local and I could see him wanting to come home. He has age working against him, so there's going to be a hesitancy to sign him for more than a couple of seasons. I like him for us, but I think FO will go another direction.

I'm going to throw in Grant Hill. He's 38, but has 33 year old knees. I loved how he played this season and wish that we had a player that could offer what he does. The problem is that Phoenix's training staff wouldn't be coming with him, and I'm sure that he wants to be on a contender. I could see him in the league for a couple more seasons if he's in the right situation.

Get Danilo Gallinari somehow via trade...

I think he can play that position well, but Green's a guy that comes from the Princeton Offense run at Georgetown and best used when he's got the Ball in his hands, creating for himself and others.

He's a very good defender and team guy, but will probably ask for something around $8 - 10 mil a year(under the current CBA), which makes him a hit or miss prospect, because that's going to be a lot of money for your 3rd or 4th(depending on how you view DJ) most important player.

I liked him a lot before for us, but I'm not sure about him right now.
Though, with Boston maybe looking for another big body(to make a last run with their Big 3 in 2012), they'd probably be interested in a sign and trade deal involving him and Kaman.

Doubt it.
First needs to show that he's healthy again, coming off that injury.
And if he's back healthy, then I expect Cuban to re-sign him, cause the Mavs need that sidekick to Nowitzki.

Nice fit skill wise, but age wise he isn't.
And even though he's from L.A., I doubt he'd sign with an up and coming team like the Clippers, while contenders are licking their chops to add him.

Combo player(SG/SF) that would be a nice scorer off the bench, but I don't view him as a starter in this league, or particular for us at SF.

Does not add that much more then Gomes and misses loads of games.
Also not going to happen with how things turned out with the Clippers and his father.

The bigger problem to me is his position. Is he a 3 or a 4?
And can he consistantly play and defend the 3 spot?
I've got my doubts, which makes me not like him as a fit on the Clippers.

More of a SG and not really a starter in this league.

Would be a nice fit, because he does the dirty work and can work off the ball on offense.

Though, he's either staying in Utah or going to the Nets.


All things said, I don't really see a fit in this years free agency class.

It's going to be tough anyways, because we first need to know what the new CBA will look like and our priority will be to keep DJ and sign EJ longterm before we do anything else.

I could see Wilson Chandler as a target, but he might not be on our radar at all, like MK just wrote above me.

Therefore the most realistic way to adress that need would be via trade with Kaman, maybe Aminu and that Minny pick as our main trading chips.
And I expect Neil to be very active on this one, starting right now and probably especially during draft time.

We were said to be offering a pick(some even said that 2012 Minny 1st rounder) for Gallinari at the deadline and were turned down.

I doubt Aminu and some future pick(which we can't predict, because we owe a future one to Boston, via OKC) would get it done.

On draft day I would try to get IND and ATL involved in a 3 way deal. The trade would have Kaman,Aminu,Bledsoe,37th pick going to ATL, Josh Smith going to IND and Granger and Pachulia going to the CLIPPS. Granger has been a 42% three point shooter playing with no great point guard or post player. On the Clipps, I think he would be efficient as a third option. I see him getting 18 ppg on 2.5 threes per game with 45% three point % on the Clipps. Another option would be JR Smith. He's more of a shooting guard, but he's 6-6 225, athletic, shoots 39% from three and is only 25 years old.

I believe we attempted to trade our 2011 pick that eventually was moved in the Baron Davis trade for Gallinari and were turned down. The 2013 pick wouldn't be available for trade, since it is still owed to Boston now as the result of the Bledsoe trade. It went to Boston from OKC as part of the Perkins/Green deal.

My list of candidates would be as follows:
1. Granger-40% from 3. Would be a great 3rd option. We would have to get 3rd team involved and get Indy a PF.
2. Galinari-38% from 3. Would be a good 3rd option. Don't know why it would take to get him though.
3. Batum-36% from 3, Would be a great 4th option guy and defensive ace. Clipps still have Mo that gets 15ppg. Kaman is a good fit in Portland.
4. Iguodala- 33% from 3. This would be an interesting acquisition. We just need players that could get us there. He's a tall PG to put next to our short SG.

I was going to post, but you pretty much said what I wanted to say. Those are the players that I would want. Portland would be brutal with a good center...although I think that they would be looking for a more defensive-minded one (i.e. Chandler, DJ, Marc Gasol).

If you guys somehow manage to sign Dwight Howard, what do you think about shipping out kaman and assets to bring in Andray Blatche at SF?

Pretty sure if you added dwight and Blatche got his head straight that your team would be pretty much unguardable

i would say Tayshaun would be a great fit, however he's looking to win a championship immediately and the LAC are still 1 or 2 years away in the west from even being considered a contender. He's old but not that old. he can still get you 2-25points a night, and plays 1-4 spot. as well as great defender.

Kaman is an expiring contract for the 2011-12 season. If by some miracle we did trade for Howard, then Kaman is likely to be involved in the deal one way or another. If we were to sign Howard in the summer of 2012, then Kaman would be an unrestricted free-agent. His rights would have to be renounced in order to use the necessary cap space to sign a free-agent such as Howard.

Prince is a player that I'd really like us to go after, along with Battier. We are really close to being a playoff team. I think defense and experience could really help this team, along with 3 point shooting. I'm sure that Battier won't sign with us, but Prince is more of a possibility. It will be interesting to see how things play out with the lockout and all.

Sixers fan here. I am sure Andre Iguodala will be made available. Thaddeus Young won't be though, they will certainly resign him as a a hybrid 3/4 and 6th man. The Sixers need a big man in the worse way. I know they almost traded him to the Clips for Kaman earlier in the year. I think this might be a good trade for both. Spencer Hawes for us was just horrible for us. Is Kaman any better then Hawes?

Grant Hill FTW. Perfect stop gap while we wait for Aminu. Give him a generous deal for 2 years and hopefully he bites.

I like the idea of Chandler or Jeff Green, Green might grab the opportunity to have a starting position with us over the Celtics and Chandler doesn't seem like hes really clicked with Nuggets yet, get one of them here and id be very happy

Too many of these SFs are going to get way overpaid this summer, like Green and Chandler. Then, they will most likely become the "bad contracts" that we will all be talking about in a year or so. I think we should go after a savvy vet with playoff experience a la Battier or Prince who can also help the growth of Aminu or pave the way for a SF we might draft with the Minny pick (Gilchrist?)

I say, give the starting job to Aminu, and let him develop. Look how Deandre Jordan stepped up.

DJ was forced to step up this season with Kaman being injured or sucking. I don't know what kind of work Aminu puts in this summer, or what level of improvement he brings into training camp. The organization, the players and we as fans are all looking toward the playoffs next season. We need someone that we can trust at the 3. I'm a fan of Aminu and I am hopeful of his potential in the long run, but I'd be thrilled to not have to count on him as a starter next season (or Gomes for that matter).
