Trade for a SF

Post#1 » by dukeknicksirish » Thu May 5, 2011 12:10 am

Why don't the Clippers go after a legit SF after the draft.... after they resign DeAndre Jordan!!!!

Danny Granger apparently didn't impress Larry Bird as much as he thought, so why don't they go after him???

Having a legit SF such as Granger would compliment the lack of this position for the Clippers way to much... So i have proposed a trade idea for Granger...

Chris Kaman + Alf-Farouq Aminu + Brian Cook
for
Danny Granger + Dahntay Jones

Why for Clippers?
-they lack the SF position enormously. They could use another scorer to take the pressure off of Blake and Eric.(He averaged 20.5ppg and 5rbg) He could help lead this team to the playoffs.

Why for Pacers?
-As i said before, Larry wasn't impressed very much by Grangers playoff performance(he is crazy), they can use Kaman to trade for a group of young talented players that fit their liking, because he is an expiring contract. They get a really young 3 in Al-Farouq along with a vet in Brian Cook.

thoughts???

I would totally go for that trade, not sure if the Pacers would. But at least you're realistically adding some talent from our side.

I would like to trade Kaman anyway and start DJ, getting Granger would then more than make up for loss of Kaman's offense.

I wouldn't. Pay attention to Larry legend. Especially if Granger played bad in the playoffs. We need someone who will play good in the playoffs.

Only way we touch Turk is if he's attached to Howard. :)

No one's trading for Turkoglu and his crappy contract.

At least not as long as they can't shed a contract which is at least as bad as his(which we don't have) or if he's coming in a package with Dwight Howard.

So either it's a deal that nets us Dwight Howard as well, or we're just not interested at all.

How about the age old trade idea of Prince for Kaman. He would fit the Clippers so well. If not for Kaman then what about Prince & 2012 2nd for Gomes, Cook & Min 2012 1st?

Tayshaun Prnice is an unrestriced free agent and if he wanted to join us, we could use our cap space(remains to be seen with the new CBA) to sign him outright.

So there's no Kaman for Prince trade likely anymore and there's no way at all of us handing out that Minnesota first round pick for him. It's also not possible to do such a trade, as the 2nd one you've mentioned, with Prince being a free agent this summer.

Just sign Prince and only trade Kaman if a good deal comes along. Probably just keep Kaman and re-sign Jordan. Griffin, Jordan, and Kaman is a solid big man rotation

Hi guys,
i'm a Clipper fan from Spain, ever since Miles & Q-Rich sophomore year, which was Gasol's rookie year (the reason they started showing more nba games here so i could see the Clippers more often :))

I really believe the Minny pick is our SF, there's a lot of depth at that spot in that rookie class and I think a prospect like what Gilchrist is shaping up to be (for the little I've seen him and the lot i've read about him), would be the perfect fit for our team, that glue guy who is a good defender and can take over a game offensively if necessary, but won't complain if he needs to have a lesser role.

We don't need to win right away, our core of Blake/EJ/Deandre/Bledsoe/Aminu will be in the league for many years to come, so having a little hole at the 3 for one more season shouldn't be that much worrying. Besides, Gomes is a better player than waht he showed this year and Aminu should be improving every year from now on.

Also, I would bet on holding to our cap space for the summer of 2012 and making a run at either Williams (preferably) or Paul, I know it's a long shot but our team should be much more attractive to FA's by that time. That would make us an instant contender, but even if it's not possible it would be a very good team with Mo at the point and EJ doing most of the ball handling.

I really hope our FO don't make any rush moves this summer cause making a bad choice and acquiring a long contract that turns out to be a bad one would hurt us more than missing on a good opportunity, be it that only with what we have now we are gonna be a very good team in the future.

After all, we swallowed a lot of bad seasons before, we can be patient enough not to risk anything, now that we're finally in a good position :)

Welcome Bodie :D

I like Gilchrist too. It all depends where the pick lands or how the other prospects play, but he's definitely intriguing. He fits what we need at SF to a tee. High B-Ball IQ and great defensive awareness. He fits the mindset of both Griffin and Gordon.

I wouldn't want us to trade the pick for anything less than Howard, Paul or Williams. If we don't acquire them, then I seriously hope that we hold onto the pick. Those players could be had in free-agency, but we would also run the risk of not being able to get them by waiting. Teams are going to throw impressive offers at the Magic, Hornets and Nets within the next 9 months. I don't think some of the media speculation/rumors going around right now will happen, but who knows what can happen between now and then. Those teams will not want to lose their franchise players for nothing, so they'll definitely be trying to work out a deal if it looks like their star is going to walk.

I don't want to see us jump the gun and make a regrettable move either, but I also don't want to see us not make a potential game-changing move and regretting it later on (e.g. Livingston/Maggette for Iverson or Pierce).

Ultimaately, none of those players are moved before the new CBA is finalized.

At this point I would trade both Kaman and the 2012 1st round pick for the right piece. If we could maybe get back somebody like Granger , I think I will go ahead and do that. Maybe a three way trade:
Clipps get: Granger, 2011 Indiana 1st(15), Dahntay Jones
Pacers get: Josh Smith, 2011 Clippers 2nd(37)
Hawks get: Kaman, 2012 Twolves 1st, Aminu
Clipps get their SF, Pacers get their PF and move George to FT SF, Hawks get their C and move Horford to FT PF.

I like Granger, but I don't think he's worth all of that, nor is Josh Smith

At this point, if we are trading the Twolves pick it should be for an elite player. I wouldn't mind getting Granger, but we don't need to throw in the pick to get him.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

Getting Igoudala for Kaman would be very intriguing. Almost have to make that trade if Clips bring back Jordan

Clippers get by far the worst end of the deal, Hawks get way too much value for Josh Smith. Pacers probably decline it as well, even though pick #15 in this draft isn't worth a lot.

Rudy Gay is available but damn he's got a big a-- contract. Idk maybe Clipps could consider Gomes+Foye+Aminu for him. Memphis saves like 50 million with this deal. Clipps get their small forward without having to trade Kaman or the 2012 TWolves pick. Maybe even a three way trade? Clipps get: Granger, Pacers get: Gay, Mayo, and Grizzlies get: Gomes, Foye, Aminu, Bledsoe, 2012 1st(Twolves). That's a solid deal.

My biggest grip with getting one of those high-paid SF like Gay, Iggy or Granger (or, although i hope they're not even considering that, Chandler, Green or Young) is that we'd lose our capspace for 2012 and the possiblity of signing a max FA then, and therefore we'd lose our leverage on any potential trade negotiations for any of those FA's. That may be the difference between having to include Gordon or DJ (as well as the Minny pick) in the hypothetic trade or not, and that's a massive difference on our future.

Unless we can get one of them for Gomes + Foye + Aminu like you say, but I don't think that's realistic.
