Tayshaun Prince to Clippers?

Post#1 » by ClipShot » Fri Jun 3, 2011 1:33 am

Best rumor of day: Somehow, some way, Detroit's Tayshaun Prince will end up with the Clippers next season. Racine Journal-Times

Wonder if there's gamesmanship going on here. Clippers are interested in Andre Iguodala. Suddenly, there's talk about Iggy for Rudy Gay. That might've been done to drive up the price for Iguodala, perhaps trying to get the Clippers to include Aminu or the Minny pick. Now, they Clippers appear willing to forgo Iggy, keep Aminu and/or the Minny pick and "settle" for Prince.

I would not mind TPrince at all..only thing to me is that Aminu's minutes will suffer AND if we get Barnes with the Minny pick next year i could see us moving Aminu after two years of him getting little PT for us. Well see hopefully his BBIQ goes up and we will be fine and in a position to get D-Williams at the PG position or turn that Minny pick into a starting PG if Bledsoe does not pan out.

Welcome to the board ClipShot :)

I'd be cool with just adding Prince. Of course, Kaman & Aminu for Iggy or Gay would be better, but I wouldn't give up the pick and Kaman for either.

There's been a lot of Gay rumors in the last few weeks, with the most notable being being Gay for Iggy and Gay for the number 2 pick. Unless I am mistaken, Memphis turned down both. Memphis has to pay Gasol this summer and it looks like they will based on what they have done with Conley, Gay and Randolph. They did go into the 2nd round without Gay, but they need to see what they can do with him imo. Some of the teams that have dominated the west over the years are getting older and other teams have weakened due to losing talent. Memphis is in a position to be a solid player in the west for the near foreseeable future if they keep their team together. I don't think they should tamper with what they have right now. They have time to evaluate.

Philly have Turner and Young that play the same position as Iggy. They're younger and less expensive. They'll want to get as much as they can for Iggy, but I'd have to think that they want to build around Holiday, Turner and Young. Iggy is expendable from that standpoint. Kaman helps if they want to lighten up the salary load, but doesn't really fit their long-term plans with the young players. I'd love for them to cave and trade for Chris and sweeteners, but I'd assume that would be after exhausting all other options.

If they can't get Igoudala, then Prince should be next option and better yet it would allow them to keep Kaman, as I think they could just straight up sign Prince- no need for a trade. Prince is one of my favorite players, so I'd love to see him on the Clippers

id love to get Prince also... i dont think he would do anything but good for Aminus growth and i think if we do manage to get barnes or Miller in the next draft that we will then have the ability to move either prince or aminu.. nothing wrong with having a ton of talent and depth..

On another note... if we did get prince, i wouldnt be too opposed to trading kaman and MO for some kind of package to get Billups. NY needs a center, Turiaf isnt a starter. And Billups and Prince have that championship swagger that could help being a backbone for the team while Blake and EJ are the face... just a crazy idea like Mo and Kaman for Turiaf and Billups or something

Sounds good to me, as we'd be able to keep our core together and add something at a much needed position.

We'd then be able to either keep that 3 man pf/c rotation of DJ, Kaman and Griffin, or try to use Kaman, Mo, some of our youngsters and even that Minny pick to take a chance at Chris Paul or Deron Williams, if they ever become available.

Adding Prince is always a possibility and I welcome the move. We have some good pieces and I think a veteran presence would be good for the team. I really hope that we can sign Prince, his playoff experience would be very valuable to the team.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

I have a hard time believing some little paper in an unknown city in Wisconsin has the scoop about Tayshaun Prince. Something they probably just read online or something. Would be nice, but I'm skeptical.

I would offer him a 3 yr deal for 24 million. I would try to structure the deal like this:
Yr 1: 11 million, Yr 2: 6.5 million, Yr 3: 6.5 million
This allows Clipps to have some financial breathing room when it comes to extending Blake and EJ and going after free agents like Deron Williams or CP3.

Makes me wonder if NBA GM's float these ideas to little papers in unknown cities to try to establish other options for their deal, which helps give them leverage in negotiating with their primary trade partner.

Wouldn't mind it at all. Veteran leadership and championship experience would be nice.

Yea, that would be a nice FA signing. Prince can play about 27-28 MPG and Aminu can still get about 20-21 MPG just at SF depending on how much time Ryan Gomes might steal from him.

I wouldn't mind this signing at all if a trade with Kaman can't be made for one of the aforementioned SF's.

Agree, I don't see any reason to spend above the MLE for him, given that he is 31. I'd start with offering him a 2 year deal as well.

I don't see what Prince can really do for the Clippers other than harm Aminu's development by taking away his minutes. Plus, he's 31, it's not like he is the missing piece to a contender. If the Clippers can't get a good SF under 28 years of age than I don't think it is worth it. We are potentially one season away from making the playoffs, but you have to remember that other teams get better each season, so we have to get even better than that to make the playoffs, let alone contend.

I think Prince would be good to make the Clippers deeper, that's about it.
