Some praise for the Clippers

5. Which will be the next franchise to win its first NBA title?

Marc Stein, ESPN.com: I narrow it down to four. Orlando and New Jersey because they've got legit franchise players (for now) in Dwight Howard and Deron Williams. Next in line are the seemingly unfathomable twosome of the Grizzlies and Clippers … until you remember that Memphis was one game away from the West finals and that the Clips only need a piece or two more around Blake Griffin to be a real factor. At this point, if I had to pick one, I'd go with the Magic, since they'll be in go-for-it mode next season (if we have one) to try to convince Dwight to stay. But Memphis is actually closest when you look at the roster and everyone under contract.

Tim MacMahon, ESPN Dallas: Let's go with the Clippers because of Blake Griffin, an athletic freak with an outstanding work ethic who has multiple-MVP potential and some good young pieces around him. However, it's hard to believe that Donald Sterling won't find a way to screw up a promising situation.

Jeff Caplan, ESPN Dallas: My goodness, this is a tough call. None of these teams seem particularly close. Obviously the Grizzlies showed great potential, but we'll have to see about their staying power. How about this: the Clippers. Yep, the Clips. They've got a superstar-in-the-making in Blake Griffin, and if ownership/management play this right (I know, that's a huge leap of faith), they should be able to attract players around him. With Kobe getting older and the Lakers in transition, the time is right for that other L.A. to take center stage.

Hopefully it's not just NBA analysts who notice this but also key free agents. If we're being honest, LA basketball is in a state of transition. The Lakers have always had great success but they're a team on the downside and the Clippers are on the upside. Let's keep the positive momentum flowing.

I really like the optimism. I do agree with what the analysts are saying. If we can build around Blake and EJ we should be in good shape. I'm surprised that they didn't mention Gordon, but I'm sure he will be a player that people remember.

I hope management continues to be serious about winning.

The teams that haven't won a title yet: Utah Jazz, Toronto Raptors, Phoenix Suns, Orlando Magic, New Orleans Hornets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Memphis Grizzlies, Los Angeles Clippers, Denver Nuggets, Cleveland Cavaliers, Charlotte Bobcats

Right now 3 of those teams have premier (or soon to be premier) players that have yet to see their prime. We are in the biggest market, so does that help a little bit. Another piece or two and a coaching change could do wonders for us moving forward and making that prediction a reality. The Donald is going to have to spend on not only the best players (which he seems committed to), but on the supporting and the staff as well. It's expensive to run a championship team. Maybe the new CBA makes it easier, but you still have to be willing to maximize your opportunity.

I'm sorry mk, but OKC hasn't won a title as well.

And don't get my started with 1979, cause that was Seattle and not those folks. ;)

That is true and was an oversight on my part. I do view them as 2 different franchises with 2 separate histories despite what may or may not happen with the banners if Seattle doesn't get another team before the deadline. Also, I'm glad that Kemp and Payton have taken the stand that they have.

No problem at all mk. ;)

It's just still very sad to me, that there aren't any Sonics anymore and how all of that happened.

Lets be serious. The Lakers are the Lakers for a reason. They are never down for a long period of time. Their front office are evil geniuses.
