Five Minutes With Eric Gordon

SLAM: Where have you been spending your time this summer and what have you been up to?

EG:
I’ve been mostly in Indiana but have gone back and forth to LA. I just got done playing in a lot of Pro-Am games back in Indy—couple days a week.

SLAM: What part of your game are you hoping to improve before next season?

EG:
My post game. I think I’m stronger than most point guards and should have more of an inside presence.

SLAM: You guys seem to have a nice young core on the Clippers with you, Blake and DeAndre Jordan. Are you hoping the team can keep you guys together?

EG:
I think it needs to happen for us to be a really good team. You see all these other teams who have guys playing together their entire careers and they stayed really good. We’re really young—been in the League three or four years and we’re still only 22 or 23.

SLAM: If we do have a season this year, what should we expect from you?

EG:
An All-Star-caliber player from now on. That’s what I’m striving for and I have high expectations.

One of the League's quietest Stars. Clipper Nation can NOT let this guy walk away, he is as important as Blake.
EJ is always concentrating on ways to improve his game, this kid has a hunger like Michael Jordan,Larry Bird, Kobe & Magic; you can't teach it, it's natural. Luv'in the Clipper's future, if the "Donald" is willing to pay.

I hoped that we could extend him before he hits the market as an RFA. The lockout may eliminate that possibility. If the whole season is lost, then the 2012 Free-Agency class would be even crazier.

One thing that helps Gordon is that he's pretty much all business and no funny stuff. He absolutely loves the game of basketball, as opposed to just the fame and fortune. With the Shooting Guard position being kind of weak atm, there's a huge potential for him to climb the ranks and really make a name for himself in the upcoming years.

That is interesting that he considers himself a point guard. If that is the case then, the Clipps needs to look for a SG, cuz he's not gonna be exploiting that match up advantage he was talking about when the opponents point guard is defending Mo or Bledsoe. I dont get that? He is pretty damn strong though even by shooting guard standards and has a 6-9 wing span, maybe he ment to say shooting guard.

I think EJ wants to be a PG but his handles aren't good enough for him to be a starter.

They got 2 other PGs on their roster. Hopefully he gets to utilize his post moves. I hate to see him work on that all summer and not be able to utilize what he has been working on. Maybe the Clipps are working on getting a "point forward" like Iggy. But even then, they would need another player at the two with size for EJ to be able to utilize his post skills verse PGs. Idk, maybe Iggy at the two and a free agent shooter at the three?
