State of the roster

Alright, the deal has been approved by the league, so it's official. We were at 15 players prior to the trade and now have the ability to picking up 2 more players.

Paul / Mo / Warren / Bledsoe (IL)
Billups / Foye / Leslie
Butler / Gomes
Griffin / Thompkins / Cook
Jordan / ????

Team salary is currently $63M or so. We should be eligible for the $2.5M exception. We desperately need a backup center. We'll need a sg next season when Billups is a free-agent, but we should be able to make it through the season fine at that position. Maybe Willie Warren gets the opportunity and becomes what many thought he could become coming out of college. Mo is definitely an option to be traded.

Who do you guys think we should target?

I can't even think of a Center for us to target. I guess we could try to bring back Diogu??????

I say go after someone bigger/better than Diogu, who are some of the free agent centers?

If DJ is fouled out/injured, we surely can't have Diogu as our starting center. I say first priority: backup Center, second should be SG. We'll be fine this season with SG's that we have

We should try to get Afflalo from the Nuggets

Bringing back Diogu is fine, but with the minimum. We need to get someone taller and better first.

LOL, I told you I couldn't think. I know that he is undersized, but he seemed to be solid last season. I do like the Afflalo idea

we def have trade assets... we need front court depth since.... we obviously have an abundance of combo guards... lol

So currently we've got the Cookie Monster, Ryan Gomes and rookie Trey Tompkins as backups at the 4 and 5 positions.

I think we'll either need to make a trade(Mo?) or sign someone on the cheap(DJ Mbenga?) to fill that role.

BTW: I also don't really like that all two pg lineups, as we'd suffer defensively alot. So a guy like DeShawn Stevenson would make quite some sense, with Caron Butler playing some 2 guard as well.

I'm a sucker for Mayo lol. it's not really realistic, but Bledsoe, maybe Foye for Mayo.

People point out the gap at SG but our biggest problem is backup center.

HUGE problem.

yeh true that..

we DONT want Brian Cook to be 'the guy' for our backup center spot

I would sign Ryan Hollins to back-up DeAndre Jordan or Dan Gadzuric since they can play defense. After that just field trade offers for Eric Bledsoe and Mo Williams. Right now we should just roll out this line-up.

PG - C. Paul/C. Billiups
SG - M. Williams/R. Foye
SF - C. Butler/R. Gomes
PF - B. Griffin/B. Cook
C - D. Jordan/R. Hollins (or D. Gadzuric)

Until we can come-up with a better package with our young assets and trade-chips just see how the current roster will work.

yeh actually, Ryan Hollins would be good.

And i wished we had of signed Rhino instead of having Cook back up Griffin.

I thought of Ryan Hollins, but he's too raw and just not a very good player. Weak rebounder, turns it too much for his role on the court, and shot blocking has gone down the past two seasons. I was thinking at backup C, a more experienced / solid player would make sense. He is still an option though.

Center
Etan Thomas
Jason Smith
Kyrylo Fesenko
D.J. Mbenga (3rd Center)
Ryan Hollins (not as a primary backup)

Shooting Guard - Realistic
DeShawn Stevenson
Michael Redd (more of a dangerous if his knees aren't dead move, but he would be cheap)
Josh Howard (again, more of a is he capable, but I would prefer an outside shooter)
Francisco Garcia (I read somewhere that the Kings would be waiving him. Good if healthy)

Shooting Guard - Going bigger
Arron Afflalo
Nick Young

Trade
Mo Williams --> O.J. Mayo
Mo Williams --> Mehmet Okur (don't think Utah needs another PG)
Mo Williams --> Jordan Hill (sadly Houston is stacked at PG)

I don't think there's any need to rush and make a signing that doesn't fit the team well, or waste money, so Nick Young might constitute the later.
