Question about Clippers offense

Post#1 » by tedwilliams1999 » Fri Dec 30, 2011 11:36 am

Hey guys,

I read one of the threads on the main board about Griffin's +/- differential, so I went back and watched the Spurs-Clippers game to see how the LAC runs their offense. It's still early in the season so I'm sure this offense will be nothing like what we'll see later on, but I had a question about the pick and 'roll' Griffin runs with Paul.

I put the 'roll' in quotes because after watching every offensive possession for LAC, I noticed that every time Griffin sets a screen for the point guard, he hangs back, while the PG either drives or passes it back to Blake for the jumpshot. I didn't see him roll to the basket once, and so basically all of his points came in transition, at the FT line, or in isolation. This is awesome, and he's already one of the best in the league at doing these things.

However, with a player as talented and athletic as Griffin, it's obviously beneficial to have him rolling and cutting to the basket as much as possible, especially with Chris Paul at the point. So I guess my question is, did this sort of pick and pop offense go on last year as well?

Its one of the things we noticed Blake needs to work on setting the screen itself Blake needs to get better at as well. Team is trying hard to gel and get things rolling its going to be ugly in the beginning but when it clicks this team will be deadly and the pick and roll will be available on so many angles.

Its going to take about 10 -15 games to figure it out. In the meantime, we need to find a 7Footer to back up the Big Guys & figure out how we use Bledsoe, once he comes back from the Injury list.
Caron's shooting will be key, the better he shoots the more the floor opens for the other guys.
