Kaman and Gordon Reaction to Trade

I saw this article so I thought I would post it. We all know Kaman and Gordon were unhappy with the trade, but they said the Clippers lied to them saying they would not be traded.(I remember hearing that myself)

Eric Gordon says Clippers lied to him about trade
By Marc J. Spears

The Los Angeles Clippers celebrated their trade for Chris Paul as a landmark moment for the woeful franchise. Eric Gordon and Chris Kaman can be excused for not joining in the celebration. The two players were sent to the New Orleans Hornets as part of the deal – just two days after Clippers officials told them they would not be traded.

And while Gordon and Kaman are excited about the opportunity to start over with the Hornets, they aren’t too happy with their former team.

“All you do is take the man’s word and take that he said that no one is going to go anywhere,” Gordon told Yahoo! Sports. “… To completely lie like that is something unprofessional.”

After trade talks with the Hornets stalled Dec. 12, Clippers general manager Neil Olshey and coach Vinny Del Negro gathered the team’s players who had guaranteed contracts and told them the franchise planned to move forward with its current group. Gordon and Kaman now think they were deceived. Olshey disagrees.

“I’m not deceptive enough to look players in the eye and tell them something that is not true,” Olshey said. “And I can tell you from an ownership level, the president of our company, myself, we made a corporate decision Monday morning that when the deal didn’t go through on Sunday night we would no longer pursue the trade. And that’s when we notified our players, to get the elephant out of the room during our abbreviated training camp.”

A hint of jealousy of Blake from EJ in that article, I thought.

Gordon has missed the Hornets’ past four games with a bruised right knee, but hit the winning shot in the season opener against the Phoenix Suns. He says he’s looking forward to being the face of the franchise – which wasn’t the case with the Clippers, who are building around All-Star forward Blake Griffin.

When I was with the Clippers I was kind of behind the scenes, behind Blake, but I was also contributing almost just as good as he is,” said Gordon, who averaged 22.3 points last season. “He gets all the spectacular credit. But now here there is more responsibility towards me.”

As for Kaman, he seems to have changed his tone, his tweets shortly after the trade weren't those of someone who felt scorned.

I see it from both perspectives. It was a blindside to the players, because the GM had just assured them that they were not going to be traded. I think they were being a little naive though. We probably were prepared to play out the season with the team as it was; but if you have the opportunity to add a top 5-10 player in the league, you take it. If we told them that we were trying to move them, things could have turned out like Lamar Odom if we were unable to.

The most unfortunate aspect of how things went down was the fact that they were on a team bus doing charity work. It made the situation awkward. With social media being such a huge factor today, it's very easy for players to find out about trades from a source outside of the team or their agent. If the deal falls through, then a GM would rather they not know they were ever on the block. If someone (agent, writer, etc.) leaks the information, before it's finalized it ends up on Twitter or something and everybody knows before the player.

So is it safe to assume Eric will not be signing with the Clippers next year?

LOL probably not. I think he either re-signs in New Orleans or heads home to Indiana.

To be honestl, I'm glad that he's upset he was traded. In the past, players were happy to "finally be back in the NBA" or to be free from jail.

Gordon is out 2-3 weeks now. He seems to be quite injury prone

I feel bad that he's gotten injured again, he can't catch a break :(

And sadly I was thinking that he might be injury prone.

It is a shame that Gordon can't stay healthy and I do wish he would get healthy and start to dominate like we know he can, but the CP3 trade keeps looking better over time so far.
