Mo Williams sets the record straight, once and for all

Mo Williams Clears The Air

“When you look around the league, to be a good team you’ve got to define roles,” says Williams. “What this team wants me to do is be a spark and have energy, come in and provide scoring and leadership off the bench. For this team that’s what I’m going to do and for this team I have no problem doing it. We got a great starting point guard in Chris Paul. If I was with the Charlotte Bobcats or one of those teams, obviously, I’d be a starting point guard in the league. I am a starting point guard in this league, but for this team it’s best suited for me to be the sixth-man.”

“I learn from everybody, always have and always will. To be around Chauncey and Chris everyday, we learn from each other. We’re all three different point guards and I watch both and they both have very good and different characteristics. Obviously, I’m different from them, but I always try to look at some of the the things they do and implement them in my game.”

Billups may be unable to play for the Clippers, but he is still very much a part of their daily process. He texts his teammates regularly, talks to them when he can, and the team sets up a locker for him on the road just as if he were going to suit up and play. He has served as a close friend and confidante for Williams since long before they joined forced in LA.

“The key thing is just time. The team was kind of put together so fast and knowing that we just got Kenyon … the thing is we’re still learning and as a team we’re not there yet. We’re winning games, we’re in games, and it just shows you have much talent we’ve got. But we’ve got another level we can get to; a couple, actually. We’re steadily fighting, trying to do the things we can to get over that hump and being that we’re playing so many games back-to-back it’s going to be tough. At the same time, we’re trying to get over that hump to get to that next level.”

Mo is spot on, this team was really put together in a bout 3 weeks. I think all Clipper fans are happy w/ our record, but we see where the team needs to step up.
My major concern is besides a 2-3 backup is DJ; he just seems to be off his game. Some nights he is fantastic, some nights he gets 2 quick fouls & he is pulled, We are lucky to have Kenyon & Reggie filling in and playing hard.
We are a playoff team this year, but we will still need to tweak our roster to become a Championship team. If we could get Dunleavy for the Trade Exception, he may fit in as a backup b/c he can play a 2 or 3 & he knows the game. How ironic would that be to see his Dad watching him in a Clips uni @ Staples?

He should be starting over Chomsy Billups, except Chomsy's ego is too big he would probably deman a trade

Billups is out for the season with an Achilles injury. Since we claimed Billups who was amnestied he can't be traded. Lastly Mo is a good punch off the bench.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

Mo's attitude and his job adjusting to what the team wants him to do is probably the part I love most about him. More than his game, his attitude, I think thats something that gets over looked. NBA players attitudes as opposed to how they play.

I think Mo is a decent starting point guard, maybe better than that since he apparently worked hard over the offseason.

But I think he is a great 6th man, its a luxury for us to have a scorer/ballhandler like him coming off the bench. Not just to spell our starters but to provide energy and offense.

Mo does kinda seem like a malcontent, however he has ajusted to his role well on the floor atleast. I don't really care if a guy speaks his speaks his mind if it's not too distracting and he still does his job. Mo actually will probably make more money long-term because of this move to the bench. It better suits him moving forward. Quite frankly he's been an awesome 6th man!

If Billups never tore his Achilles I bet Instant Mo would have demanded a trade by now.
