The Clippers reportedly intend to sign Bobby Simmons to a 10-day contract after the All-Star break.
Simmons was the league's Most Improved Player while with the Clippers in 2004-05, but he hasn't matched that success in recent years. He's been playing in the D-League this season, averaging 13.5 points and 7.6 rebounds, and doesn't have fantasy appeal.

I remember the days when Bobby's mid-range jumper was money. He wouldn't miss anything inside 20 feet if he was open. He was supposed to be a good defensive player, but sadly was never necessarily that great on defense, even in his best years.

I'm not sure what 31 year old Bobby brings to the table right now except that he can possibly do more on the court than Ryan Gomes, though his last two NBA seasons don't suggest that to be the case.

10 day contracts are what they are though, try-outs, so let's see what he does in his time here.

Wow, time to dust off my ps2 and fire up NBA 2K5 again, lol. I didn't even know he was still playing basketball. Hopefully he still has something left.

I'm a bit surprised that we signed him, however I'm glad it's a 10 day contract though. I immediately thought about when he played with us in the past. He was my favorite Clipper during his breakout season and I was sad to see him go. I did work out for us though since he was overpaid and never played that well.

We'll see what Bobby currently has now and what he can bring to the team.

You gotta think the team knows what they are doing, he must have been the best guy we worked out. I still think we need someone who can start at SG, but hopefully Simmons revives his career here!

Great pickup for you guys, he will help control your hooker population. During Simmon's time in Milwaukee, he was famous for picking up hookers then punching them right in the face and kicking them out of his moving car. He fights the good fight, he'll help keep your corners clean and prostitute free.

You are kidding right? I never heard any reports of this before. Sounds a bit extreme and crazy to me.

Not what I was hoping for, but I can't complain about a player on a 10-day. It'll be an opportunity to see if he can add any positive value for the remainder of the season. At the same time, opportunities will open up starting on Thursday when players that were recently signed can be traded. During those 15 days, I'm sure that Neil will be on the phones seeing if he can make some more significant moves via trade.

I think he'll help or we wouldn't have signed him. I see him taking the minutes Gomes has been getting. We really need a boost on the wings tho and I'm not sure he is the guy. Butler's play has become inconsistant and Foye doesn't seem to be the answer in the starting lineup. I'm not sure Simmons is the guy who can close games out when Butler and or Foye are struggling.

i just hope this is a sign of a trade to come... gomes and cookie outbound please

Is this move a buffer as to see who is available after March 1st? Does anyone think Bobby can re-produce from years past?
I liked Bobby at 26, not sure I like Bobby as a 32 year old journeyman who hasn't played in the NBA for a while.

I like this signing. Less Gomes please.

Did not want Bobby Simmons, but like you said 10-day isn't so bad. If he can come in and take over Gomes minutes we should be fine.

I want Neil to really work the phones for a decent wing.
