D'antoni to the Clippers

I know Mike D'antoni is a flawed, stubborn, one dimensional coach.....but this Clippers roster fits his style of play perfectly

I like the duo of Chris Paul and Blake more than Nash and Amare

Clippers have shooters in mo williams, nick young and caron butler

Clippers will be much better on defense than the suns by default. Clippers have guys who can defend the interior in Deandre Jordan and Kenyon Martin, and they're still serviceable on offense in dantonis system.

Vinny Del Negro is a terrible coach for this squad, they've gotta get rid of him. D'antoni has his issues, but look at the clippers roster and tell me how many available coaches are a better fit for the team.

When D'antoni had guys who fit his system he won a lot of games. I think this squad has better pieces than those phoenix teams.

Yup, if he wants to come in as an assistant coach, that's fine

All of you said exactly what was on my mind, we wouldn't have any defense. I was never a fan of D'Antoni and I think he was lucky to have Steve Nash.

D'Antoni is not the answer.

Nate Mc or bust

If he were our offensive coordinator, then sure. We need a defensive minded leader on the sidelines. We need someone that is either going to teach these guys how to be respectable on that end of the floor or at least come up with schemes to hide the deficiencies.

Another thing about D'Antoni that would concern me if he were the coach is that he would rather re-sign than deal with someone that he has a difference of opinion. What is that about? If you want to be a head coach in this league, sometimes there are going to be uncomfortable situations that you must overcome. If you can't do that, then be an assistant and call it a day.

I'm probably going to be lambasted for this, but depending on how the playoffs play out, I feel as though Del Negro's 3rd year option should be picked up. Of course, if the Clippers sputter out of the playoffs without a strong showing, then by all means find a different guy to come in.

But in my opinion, yes, Del Negro's deficiencies are fairly noticeable, but over the course of this season, I feel as though this team has over achieved. And barring any major injuries to Blake or CP3 next season, this team will have a higher winning percentage than they did this season, which has already been a historic year for this team.

Similarly, this team has the 4th most efficient offense but there defensive efficiency is ranked 18th(?). Doesn't make much sense to me to bring in D'Antoni. Similarly, D'antoni commands top dollar and multiple years, so what happens if the Carmelo saga plays out with CP or Griffin? If the Dunleavy saga is any indication, I doubt Sterling would be willing to sever those ties so easily.

With a proper season next year, this team will be even better. If things get bumpy, the team can cut Del Negro midway through and still be a playoff team. Sure, the Clippers can benefit from having a proper system, but I think it's wiser to wait and lock in Griffin and CP3 first before finding a replacement coach.

Most games we won we won because of CP3 not Del Negro.
If we had a good coach we could have one more games.

Mike D'Antoni should not be an NBA coach. I think he should coach an NCAA team instead. I want a coach who can win a championship.

I'd take Mike Dunleavy over D'Antoni...that's how little I think of Mr. Pringles

D'antoni, though I like him can't win in the DEFENSIVE NBA playoffs. Let's see how VDN does in the playoffs until we replace him.
Nate MacMillan might be a choice?

i feel as though they will pick up VDNs option in the offseason... let's hope not. Nate would be great imo.

Even if our roster fits D'antoni's system, I still think he can only get us so far. We might be a great regular season team, but in the playoffs, you just can't win without defense.

If Sloan is an option, he'd be my first choice.

The thing with Nate is, I haven't really followed the Blazers closely. I just know that they always seemed to overachieve, which sounds good. But I remember a few Blazers fans who really wanted to get rid of him, and this is when they were doing pretty good! It's hard to ignore that. I still think he's much better than VDN though.

Even if we do decently in the playoffs, I still would go with someone other than VDN. I just think that our success is mainly due to CP3's sheer talent and Billups' input, rather than VDN himself.

Many Blazer fans have ripped McMillan. They were frustrated with the offense and the stubbornness that most coaches have. They said he was overrated, but overachieving is something that shouldn't go overlooked.

Every fanbase has fans that aren't going to like the coach or will criticize the coach. A lot of Jazz fans wanted Sloan out (I'd gladly welcome him). Some Laker fans were tired of Phil. Pop may be the only coach that can avoid it.

I can't lie though, the Blazer fans criticisms do have me a little concerned with Nate. I agree that he's better than Vinny, but we need better than just better than Vinny. We need a coach that can take this team to another level. We need a coach that can bring a whole new mindset. You look at the change that Paul and Billups have brought as players with the expectations and the way that they talk. You need a coach that goes even further than that. Look at Thibs and what he has done for the Bulls from a defensive standpoint. Noah and Deng were decent no matter who the coach was, but he made them better and the team one of the best.

The player personnel needs to be improved, and I expect that to be addressed in the offseason. A defensive coach with complementary pieces on the roster can take this team to where we want to go.

Great post, I agree with everything. But above all I want a coach that the players respect. That when the game is getting out of control they can expect that during the timeout this coach is going to bring order.

Did you guys see where they showed Sam Cassell at the game with John Wall, showing him what the playoffs are like? why not bring in Sam? My dream would be Sloan, why not hire Sloan with Sam as the assistant, with the caveat that he takes over when Sloan retires.

You guys do not want D'Antoni trust me. He is a terrible and one dimensional coach. He completely ruined our Knicks record. 8-15 at the beginning of the season, 7 game losing streak. Exposed when a semi decent coach could get an 18-6 record after he left. Also couldn't make it further in the playoffs with a STACKED Phoenix Suns team.

That being said I think Sloan would be a good fit.

We already know our offense i think we should get a defensive coach (like the Bulls coach)
