CP3 is the REAL coach

I know this may not be anything novel to any of you guys, but I would just like to put this out thereA lot of people are heaping praise on Vinny, and while I do agree to some extent that he is effective in his rotations and the like, CP3 is the real coach on the team. His ability to direct traffic and call plays according to what the defense gives him is mind-boggling. He's able to say "no" to his teammate when they're calling for the ball without being bad mouthed by them, and this is only because he's fair and looks out for everyone.
What do you guys think?

Can you guys please make up your minds? If the team is losing or in a slump its the coaches fault. Bad rotations and failure to motivate. Nothing to do with players failing to execute. If we are playing well and winning strong it has nothing to do with th coach instead its the players coaching, motivating and executing. Be careful what you wish for. Right now the only coach I want for The Clippers is VDN because we are winning and currently hold the League's best record.

It's a collaborative effort.
Every great floor general is a coach out on the court. That's something that you want to have and need to have in most cases. We have a couple of them (CP3 and Billups) to go along with the coaching staff.
I wasn't a fan of Vinny's coming in and still feel that he has a lot to learn (as a tactician), but I have no reason to diss him. He's done well. If you listen to the players, they're saying that he is the reason that they are doing so well. Sure they love the quality of their teammates, but it goes beyond that. He has instilled confidence in the role players and they're playing up to their potential (or even beyond what people thought they would do).
Our stars are playing far less minutes than a majority of players of equal caliber in the league. That's going to shave off 8-10 games in comparison over the course of the season. The depth helps, but you have to keep that depth in high spirits or it's counter-productive. Vinny has gotten those guys to buy in to what he's selling. Our defense was a big issue last season and he goes out and he brought in the right assistant to correct the problem. If you have weaknesses as a coach, then it's best to bring in a complement to negate those weaknesses. So far, he's impressed this season.
Vinny knows how the story goes with criticism/praise. If the team does well, it's because of the players. If the team is struggling, it's the coach. That's a shortsighted way to look at things imo.

vinny as a coach is still a joke. just cause he hasnt failed yet dont mean he wont.
only thing i will give him credit with is making sure everyone knows their roles(not sure if assistance or someone helped him with this)

first of all,we are winning, that's all that matters to me and i couldn't careless if whoopi goldberg puts on her "eddie" hat and coach the clips as long as we have the best record in NBA.
secondly, OP is not a clipper fan and is trying to get a reassurance of his hatred of vinny from his bulls days. it is a boarderline trolling thread.
lastly, give some credit where it is due. this is coming from the most vocal vinny hater at the old forum... i was a fan of duane casey from the day duns sr got fired. yes vinny isn't a tactician of Xs and Os, we all know that. but he has done a great job of allowing players to dictate the flow of the game rather than micromanaging like mike. if anything, he was a big part of the assembly part of the roster. for that i respect vinny now.
let's just all enjoy the ride.

it's a point guard's job to facilitate the floor on the fly... defenses and position can change at any given moment so the PG has to change with what the D gives up.
A coach's job is to prepare and make the right rotations, etc throughout the game. but if you have a PG that is like a peyton manning on the floor, why would you tell him to stick with the game plan?
are you telling me peyton manning is the coach? lol.
VDN is doing a good job preparing, matching up and finding the rotation early in the season, which helped build the chemistry on the floor.
give credit where credit is due.
EDIT: lol @neddy... read your post after i posted mine, def "give credit where credit is due"

Can't Vinny improve? He seems like he does a good job managing the players and motivating them, those are important coaching skills. He's letting his assistant do his job as the team is a top 5 defense. He isn't the best X and O coach out there, but the man is doing what he needs to do.

VDN is not the BEST all round coach in the NBA, VDN is the BEST coach for the Clippers right now. I think the players checked their egos at the door b/c VDN & his staff did the same thing; I love the fact that VDN listens to his players & tries to give them all minutes. Toughest job in coaching a talented team is keeping everyone happy and making sure they do their job.

I agree with you guys. He does deserve some credit out there for keeping the team exactly that, a team. We don't see a bunch of guys with DNP's and meaningless minutes. It's not easy when you have so much talent, and only a limited number of minutes to go around. He's doing well to keep the team's morale up. And he was instrumental in getting some of these free-agents in.
I also agree one of his biggest strengths is that he listens. It's not like some of these coaches who want to be dictators, and then eventually get tuned out. But he's also not like the coaches that don't command respect from the players and lose complete control.
I can't believe I'm actually giving credit to VDN, lol.

Uhhh, no I'm not. I don't troll. I'm just pointing out something I say when I was watching the Clippers Vs. Lakers game again. No need to hate.

A lot of you have made some good points. Vinny has done a great job. He's not my favorite coach or my first choice, but he his getting us wins. Do I think he can take us all the way to the Championship. I don't know, we'll have to see. My hope is that we do and if we win and become champions I'll be happy to have Vinny back.

Hypotehtically...if VDN truly is a horrible basketball coach overall, and by that I guess I mean in the 25th percentile or lower among NBA head coaches...
AND the Clippers have the best record in the NBA...
WTF is the point? Obviously, coaches have little to no impact in the NBA since one of the worst coaches is coaching one of the best teams in the NBA, and has the best record in the NBA.
