NBA Draft Ties Broken: Detroit won tiebreaker w/Washington. Philadelphia won over Toronto. Houston won over Chicago. Clippers over Memphis.

Clippers win the tiebreaker over the Grizzlies to secure the 25th pick in the first round. However, we'll lose our 2nd round pick as a result. When there is a tie, the losing team gets the better of the picks in the 2nd round. We traded away our 2nd rounder (Top-55 protected) to the Pistons in 2009 for Alex Acker (cap relief for Detroit) and a 2011 2nd rounder (Trey Thompkins).

I bet we didn't think that those top 55 protected 2nd rounders would be going anywhere a few years back. Our 2nd rounders through 2016 are each essentially top 55 protected (2015 pick is also top 50 protected; goes to Houston if 51-55; goes to Denver if 56-60).

We're probably one of the few teams without a draft thread, so feel free to discuss any draft related topics in this thread.

Archie Goodwin is the guy we have to get unless MCW drops, somehow. Gorgui Dieng would be my second realistic choice.

i think a package of bledsoe + 25th + caron's expiring could wooo some lottery teams or teams near the lottery.
I'm thinking that package to the Suns for Frye and their lottery pick. Or maybe that package to the Hornets for Ryan Anderson and their pick.

would leave us hamstrung at SF and back up pg but i think we can find a remedy for thoe spots.

Crabbe seems like the guy at the 25th spot. I hate Withey and the other kid seems too raw for a first round pick imo. a huge project.

I've seen Crabbe in HS and at Cal. I sincerely hope if we pick him up that he fits in well and puts his hard hat on everyday. The last thing I wanna see is diva behavior, attitude and lack of intensity on defense.

it's why I'ma fan of trading up. Dallas could use Bledsoe...now let's work out a deal for that lottery pick.

Does anybody know where the Salary Cap is going to be next year? Whether it's going to be below 60 as usual or if it's going to move up? It means darn near everything to the Clippers.

Its a must to grab Crabee or Hardaway Jr. ( still believe in him) with maxing out Paul cap will be tight. We already have Crawford as sixth man for couple years so getting a SG who is long, shoot, create some and defend will be a huge boost going ahead I would prefer it be a prospect that has a NBA ready game and may develop over the time.

If trading Bledsoe time comes we need to get a 2014 pick in the lottery that draft is stacked.

but say the cap moves up to 69.
just rounding the numbers up.

20 for CP
10 for Deandre
8 for Caron (which i want to trade away anyway)
5 for Jamal Crawford.
1 mill team option on willie
2 mill for bledsoe
2 mill for Grant Hill

we'd come in under the cap going into next offseason according to everything on our books.
if the cap were to be like that, we could draft a Crabbe or maybe someone a bit better and still take on another $10 million player....like a Gallinari...or maybe even a Parsons, who is cheap now but will be a $10-12 million when his contract is up.

and we could take on that $10 million player because we'd be getting rid of Caron, amnestying Grant's deal (not sure if retired players affect the cap).
it would be something like

20 for blake
20 for CP
10 for DJ
10 mill on an a pretty good SF
1-2 mill on a rookie SG
1-2 mill on Lamar Odom
2 mill on Matt Barnes
3 mill on Chauncey
5 on Jamal Crawford.

we'd be slightly over the cap but under the super tax.

Blake isn't making $20M, he's on his first max extension, it isn't that much per year

I like Crabbe, and he's a player that I could see us drafting. We could totally use his shooting. He'd be a role player instead of the go-to-guy, which could make him lethal for us. He leaves a lot to be desired on the defensive end though. Although, if he was legit on the defensive end as well, he'd be slated to go a lot higher.

I expect it to go up, but I think that's a wee bit optimistic. The original estimations (at the time of the new CBA) were somewhere around $60-61M, which would be a $2-3M increase from where it has been the past 2 seasons. If it actually does go up above that, I would be shocked if it would exceed $63M.

Hill can't be amnestied, because he signed after the new CBA. Amnesty Provision is only good for what would have been current (at the time of the establishment of the new CBA).

I could see the Clippers doing something like this on draft day:

1. Trade Butler to Washington for Ariza
Why for Clippers?
One of their weaknesses is defending the three point shot. Ariza could get out there and bother opposing shooters with his 7-1 wing span. Ariza is also good at getting steals, scoring in transition and hitting corner threes.

Why for Wizards?
Butler is still a fan favorite in Washington. He would be a stabelizing presence in their young locker room and he gives Washington some much needed offense. The teams reportedly already agreed on a trade involving these two players but DTS shot down the offer because be didn't want to mess with chemistry. That wouldn't be the case in the offseason.

2. Trade Bledsoe to Sacramento/Seattle for the 6th pick (projected)
Why for Clippers?
Bledsoe has been a valuable player for the Clippers but, the fact is he wants to be a starting NBA PG and he will most likely command a large salary after next season, so just on finance alone it would be wise for the Clippers to get a lottery pick who will be cost controlled for the next 3-4 years. The Clippers could be able to nab Kelly Olynek with this pick. He is the 7 foot C/PF out of Gonzaga. The guy could really shoot the ball, which is all we need him to do, but he could post up on top of that. He is the perfect compliment to Blake and DJ because he basically the complete opposite of those two guys. They would form a great rotation at the 4/5 for years to come. Plus, Olynek could also help motivate DJ to improve more.

3. Draft Crabbe with that 25th pick
He is a L.A. kid and he could shoot the lights out. We were not all that great from three point range this season, Crabbe could help with this.

I honestly can't believe you guys want to trade up in this draft. There is nothing for us in this draft. It's one of the weakest in recent memory.

If the Clippers get the 6th pick and Shabazz Muhammed is still on the board, it will be hard for them to pass up on him. The guy would give them that James Harden like 3rd scorer. Actually, he would instantly be the most gifted scorer on the team. He drained 38% of his threes his freshman year on college and got to the line 7 times per 40 minutes. He excels in catch and shoot, transition play and cutting. We could use a guy like that. I could see the Clippers big 4 one day looking like this:

Muhammed 21ppg, 5rpg, 45%FGs, 80%fts, 42%threes
Griffin 20ppg, 10rpg, 4apg, 50%FGs, 80%fts
Crawford. 16ppg, 3rpg, 3apg, 90%fts, 35%threes
Paul. 15ppg, 4rpg, 11apg, 2.5spg, 45%fgs

if we give up bledsoe and land Burke +something i wouldnt mind

You know just the other day I was thinking we should trade Bledsoe to Sac for Tyreke Evans.

I think Sacramento (or Seattle) would be interested in Bled for the following reasons:

1. He is a exciting player- He is a amazing athlete and he is a blur running down the floor. He makes exciting plays. He would help to sell tickets either in Sacramento or Seattle.

2. He gets steals at a very high rate- This would be especially intriguing to Sonics fans because it would be reminiscent of Gary "The Glove" Payton.

3. He was college teammates with Cousins and Patterson- There are rumblings that a lot of Cousins teammates dont like him. At lease he would have 2 of the starting 5 liking him and they have a lot of free agents too that they could just let go. Plus Evans is on the trade block anyway.

4. Isiah Thomas- At 5-9, I don't think he has the court vision or the defense to be a starting NBA PG. He could be a very good change the pace back up PG though.

I wouldn't want Evans for Bled though because he doesnt provide us anything that we need. He is a ball handling athletic slasher, we need a shooter/defender at the 2 or 3, which are two o Tyreke's weaknesses.

why not bledsoe and our pick to NOLA for Ryan Anderson and their pick?

then we can trade caron for ariza.
