It should be a good experience for him. It's only a few days, but it's still an opportunity to learn from. Hopefully he's putting in work well before the camp.

I'm surprised that he got an invite, but hopefully this will be a good experience for him. He does have some skills and hopefully in Vegas he'll see how hard he has to work. I hope he comes back a better player.

I still have no hope for him being anything more than a dunker. He's done absolutely nothing to prove otherwise. He regressed this year which is pathetic

He didn't regress at all. He doesn't foul out as easily and he has a legit post game. If I were a coach or part of the coaching staff, that tells me he's teachable and willing to put in the work. This is especially astounding since he was coming off a new contract. Now, DJ, work on your footwork (which would improve rebounding and defending a big man 1v1), protecting the ball (especially against guards/help-D), and of course, free throws. You can also argue that DJ never had the chance to learn and practice these things in-game because of how restrictive and punishing VDN was when he did something wrong. How will he improve if you consistently punish his behavior? He rarely touched the ball on offense.
I'm surprised by the invite but it only means good things. Positive reinforcement for him to improve his game further. He's still young too.

JORDAN SELECTED FOR 2013 USA BASKETBALL MINI-CAMP“It’s a tremendous honor,” Clippers Vice President of Basketball Operations Gary Sacks said. “I think it really shows how DeAndre is viewed throughout the league. He’s an emerging young player and the chance to be a part of a mini-camp like this is only going to help him. I’m excited for him and for USA Basketball.”
Including Jordan, there are five centers who have committed to the mini-camp: DeMarcus Cousins, Andre Drummond, Larry Sanders and Tyler Zeller. Cousins was a member of the 2012 USA Select Team that scrimmaged against Team USA in the lead up to the 2012 Summer Olympics. Otherwise, the group of big men are relatively new to USA Basketball.
"The majority of these players have prior USA Basketball experience including 10 members of last summer's USA Select Team that helped prepare the U.S. Olympic Team,” Colangelo said. “This year is an important first step in the rebuilding of the USA National Team roster for the 2014-16 international competitions, and we believe we have compiled a roster of not only outstanding basketball talents, but individuals who will represent the United States in the manner we expect."

JORDAN AIMS TO LEARN FROM TEAM USA EXPERIENCE
“The first practice was how I thought it was going to be,” Jordan said. “It was intense, a lot of learning.”
This summer, after Paul and Griffin were in Las Vegas to watch the Clippers’ Summer League opener, the duo left for China on a six-day, four-city promotional tour with Jordan Brand. Even while they were halfway across the world, it didn’t stop Jordan from eagerly reaching out to them about what to expect.
“I was blowing their phones up while they were in China just trying to ask them how it was and the practice schedule,” Jordan said. “They told me I was just going to have a good time. It was just going to be a lot of younger guys, our age, playing. And really just learning and getting ready for the next two years here.”
“I think it will definitely help me,” Jordan said of his time with Team USA. “With a lot of the coaches and the talent that we have here, it’s going to definitely have you playing at the highest level. And you just need to learn as much as possible.”

I'm glad that he's getting the opportunity to hear from different coaches. Coach K, Monty Williams, Thibs, etc. I know that there's probably not a lot of one-on-one time with them, but hopefully they're dropping little nuggets that he can build on.
Coach Thompson dropped in and shared a few words with them today.
