LaMarcus Aldridge hopes the Portland Trail Blazers can improve their roster before the start of the 13-14 NBA season. If that does not happen, Aldridge would prefer a trade.
Sources say Aldridge would prefer a trade to the Chicago Bulls.
The Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Clippers would be two other teams high on Aldridge's list.
"LaMarcus loves Portland," said the source. "He spent seven years there and grew as a man. Him going back is a possibility and he knows that. He's a professional, it wouldn't be an issue."
Do we have any shot at getting Aldridge? I was actually going to post a topic about it an hour ago, but then figured there's no way and now this article pops up. All the weaker teams could offer much better packages but Aldridge wants to go to one of the Bulls, Mavs, or Clippers. Cuban's probably trying to do everything he can to get Dwight so I'd say the Mavs are the least likely of the three to get Aldridge.
So it comes down to which team Aldridge prefers to go to and which team can offer more. The Bulls can make an offer centered around Deng and their 20th pick, while the Clippers could do something along the lines of Jordan, Bled, the 25th pick, and future picks. I don't know how much the Blazers need Deng with them giving Batum a fat contract last summer or how much they need Bledsoe with them having Lillard, but those were the best deals I could think of on the fly.
But getting Aldridge would make this team deadly. Aldridge has range as well so that would clear up space for Griffin in the post. I think getting Aldridge would make us a legit title contender for the next few years with the addition of Rivers.
Thoughts?

1) I don't think the Clippers have what the Blazers would be asking for.
2) A Griffin/Aldridge center/power forward duo would be historically bad on defense.
3) It wouldn't make the Clippers a championship contender, given #2.
I think trying to talk to the Rockets about a Jordan for Asik + 2nd round pick swap(if they miss out on Howard) would be a way better thing to do, as it would upgrade the defense and add more financial flexibility.

I agree our defense would be a bit better with Asik down low, but Aldridge is the star calibur player we need to be able to win a championship. I believe that if we do get Aldridge, Doc will be able to improve our front courts defense much more than he can improve Jordan's free throw shooting. What we gain with Aldridge on offense is much more than what we lose with him on defense. I do agree though that our defense would need improvement off the bench if something like this happened so this is a time where I really wish we still had Evans.

Aldridge's a power forward that hates playing center and would be forced to do so, if he'd come to the Clippers.
Everybody knows about DJ's offensive and free throw troubles but I don't think replacing him with Aldridge would really help the Clippers get over the hump.

There's no way the clippers can get Aldridge w/out giving up Blake or CP3, but if they can they should take it and run!
If Dwight makes it clear he wont re-sign, I could see the Clippers trading Griffin for Dwight and having a front court of Aldridge and Dwight Howard.
Aldridge has a versatile offensive game and wont be shut down the same way as Griffin in the playoffs.

With Aldridge pulling one of the bigs away from the paint Griffin would be MUCH harder to deal with. Offensively these two would be a tough combo to deal with.
Defensively they would have their challenges but Blake just had his best defensive year last year. His ability to move his feet and rotate is very good, because of his athleticism his can become elite in that phase of defense.
Shotblocking and low post defense he's a little above average.
Aldridge I don't know as well. He seems to be a below average defender and doesn't seem to care about defense or rebounding loves to score. but I haven't seen him enough to live by those words. I know that based on his first two years I'd say the same about blake. But last year he improved in all phases of the game.
Vinny cut his minutes so mush that his numbers were down all across the board, which hid Blakes development.
Anyway this is a dream.

Three team trade:
Clippers get: Aldridge, Afflalo and Leonard
Magic get: Bledsoe, Butler and Freeland
Blazers get: DJ, 2014 1st (the lesser of the Orlando/Denver/New York picks), 2017 Clippers 1st and 3 million cash
Clippers get Aldridge, who would be a great compliment to Blake. Clippers also get Afflalo, who they have been rumored to have interest in any way. Clippers also get Leonard, who
Is a good shot blocker. You could play him 20mpg at C, while Aldridge slides over to the 4 when Blake is out of the game. Hopefully he could develop into a 24-28mpg back up center that could get 2 blocks per game. We will need a rim protector is DJ is swapped out for LA.
Blazers get DJ, who Olshey loves. They also get the lesser of Orlando's 1st round picks in next years great draft and a 2017 Clippers unprotected 1st. Portland also saves a additional 8.5 million of salary for this season. They end up with a lot of space. They could utilize it if they want to sign some free agents like Josh Smith, Paul Milsap, etc.

Why would Portland even consider that for one second?

I would send DeRozen to Portland instead. We don't need him.
Here is a different scenario involving those three teams:
Clippers get: LaMarcus Aldridge and Amir Johnson
Blazers get: Deandre Jordan, 2015 Raptors 1st(unprotected),2017 Clippers 1st(unprotected),2014 Raptors 2nd, 2016 Clippers 2nd and 3 million cash
Raptors get: Bledsoe, Butler and Freeland
Why does Portland do it?
-They are reportedly looking for a center in exchange for Aldridge. Chicago will not trade them Noah, understandably so. DJ is somebody that has been on Portland's radar for some time. Olshey loves him.
-They get a lot of draft picks that they could use in other trades, or to just rebuild with.
-They do addition by subtraction with this trade by dumping Freeland's useless contract. They end up saving 5.5 million off this seasons payroll right away, getting them even further under the cap. I think this puts them 21 million under the cap (if they renounce Hickson and Babbitt), 13 million if they just renounce Hickson. So, they would be in a position to pull a free agent or two. Let's take a look at their roster:
PF-Vacant, Vacant, Vacant
SF-Batum, Claver
C-DJ, Leonard, Withey, Todorovic
PG-Lilliard, McCallum
SG-Matthews, Pavlovic, Crabbe
It seems power forward would be the position they would need to fill with a free agent. The could offer Josh Smith a max contract, or Paul Milsap a deal in the 10 million per year range.
Why would Portland even consider that for one second?
