HOLD the Mayo

I really can't see the Clippers being that interested in OJ, I see him as a selfish cancer to his teams & I am dating back to USC. Am I wrong, does anyone think this guy can help us or does he want a boat load of money, that we just can't offer.

Clippers coach and senior VP of basketball operations Doc Rivers has "serious interest" in O.J. Mayo, and the shooting guard was the second free agent the team called after speaking to Chris Paul last night, reports Sam Amick of USA Today. The team may pursue a sign-and-trade with the Mavericks involving Eric Bledsoe to acquire Mayo, according to Amick (Twitter links).
The Clippers will have plenty of competition for the Landmark Sports Agency client. Mayo is reportedly also meeting with the Wolves, and Jazz, Bucks, Timberwolves, Blazers, Bobcats and Bulls are all likely suitors as well. Mayo could have stayed with the Mavs on a $4.2MM player option, but it appears he'll net much more than that on the market.
The Clips go into the offseason with about $44MM guaranteed on their books, but with Paul's max salary pushing $19MM, a weighty offer for Mayo could push the team close to tax territory, unless the Clippers can shed significant salary in a sign-and-trade. I'd doubt the Mavs are looking to take back too much in return for Mayo, however, as they look to retain cap flexibility.

I completely disagree. Mayo would be my #1 priority for this offseason. He's never played with a great PG and I feel CP3 would make him much more efficient and make him a smarter basketball player. Since he is a pretty good ballhandler as well, we could have a lineup with Crawford and him in the backcourt taking turns bringing the ball up the floor.

I don't understand why we would think of doing a sign-and-trade for Mayo. Bledsoe is worth so much more than just Mayo. And Dallas doesn't even have anyone else under contract that would be worth getting. We could possibly do Bledsoe and Butler for Mayo and Marion but I don't think that's the best path to take. Marion is a great defender but can't shoot anymore.
Bledsoe is better shopped elsewhere. If Doc wants Mayo, use the Mid-Level.

You can't afford him, plain and simple.

Is it that much of a crime to be both a Lakers and Clippers fan?

except that this rivalry, unlike every other rivalry, has been one sided my entire life. I have been a fan of both since the 90's. I started watching basketball and being from LA, I got the broadcast for both teams so I grew to like both of them. I never had any conflict and nobody really cared until about 2 years ago when the Clippers became relevant. It really makes no sense since there's people out there who are just fans of the Clippers, but I still might be a bigger Clippers fan. Yet since I like the Lakers as well, it makes me some kind of terrible human being. I can't control who I like. You're saying that since both teams I've grown up liking are now good at the same time, I need to just start hating one of them?

supernova, where you been? I remember back on the VSN (I think) and DSS you were there for a while.
I think Mayo has never been on a team like ours, with a star PG, and to me, in every situation Mayo's been in it has seemed he hasn't been too fond of it. Or it hasn't suited him well,
starting along side CP and Blake etc. I think he could really play well.

I would look into a Bledsoe/Butler for Mayo/Marion deal. I think that would solidify our wings, and Marion does so much more with his intangibles and defense that make him so valuable. I think OJ still has lots of potential to improve and possibly break out which keeps me excited about him.

That is probably a good trade for both teams. I think it would then be important to also sign Barnes because I'd be concerned about Marion's ability to stay healthy all season at age 35

i care, and this rivalry actually started since 91-93 when larry brown took us to the playoffs a seed higher than the lakers back to back. i still remember all the trash talking i had to endure from laker fans when they barely made it both times as the last seed.

So I can't be a Clippers and Lakers fan because of a little trash talking that happened 20 years ago? A full on rivalry I'd understand, but just the fact that the Clippers got a higher seed makes this a reason for me not to be able to root for both teams? I didn't become a fan until later in the 90's so that didn't affect me at all so I don't know why that has to make you angry that I'm a fan of both.

there is a lot of pain for those of us who have been supporting the clips that were inflicted by loudmouth laker fans. if you truly support both teams equally, that's your right. but i can't be faithful to two wives, and your sig will bring a lot of hate around here. nothing personal, simply stating how most of us in here feel about your "the other" team.
also, the fact that you constantly putting us down by saying there was never a real rivalry, will be looked at as a borderline trolling by many.
