Is Greg Oden worth the risk

Post#1 » by Verballer » Sat Jul 6, 2013 11:01 pm

Would be nice to sign him and see him flourish and if he had a season with at least 50-60 games we could trade him or keep him if he does well, but if he plays 10-20 games we would have wasted our MLE on a bigman we need and have thrown our season out the window

Would love to add Oden as backup and possible replacement for DJ. If healthy, he's a defensive presence. I think the lockerroom would serve him well with regard to keeping him out of danger with respect to depression and alcoholism. Problem is that we are not talked about as being under consideration but at talk withDoc could change it. Big problem is that we can't offer the amount of money he would command.

I think most fans of every team is hoping that their FO can get this guy on a cheap deal. If it's a miss, then you don't lose much. If it's a hit, then you have yourself a steal.

I think that a team would have to go into a deal with Oden already having a starter and a solid backup in place. You don't want to have to rely on him since he hasn't played in years.

I don't think there is ever a risk signing a player to the vets min. The only risk is if you choose Oden over another player you could have gotten cheaper and watch Oden get hurt. If he's willing, it is a risk I am willing to take. Is Byron Mullins or Kaman going to put up All star numbers? If not, and they are the best of what is left, why not take a shot?

MK can we convert this thread to our need of a Big Man?

no disrespect Verb.

i like Oden for cheap. I think everybody will, which will drive the price up or force people to give him a guaranteed deal.

I'd also love to take the risk on Channing Frye.
but I'm not sure if the league would let us trade picks at this point or if we need to be within 125% of his salary.
if we got Frye....and he was cleared to play....I'm riding with the Clips to the finals and no one else.

i don't think oden will consider a vet's minimum salary and there is no possible avenue that we can bring greg oden in clipper uniform... but if he does accept the lowest possible salary allowed in NBA for him to be here, why the hell not.

just make sure we have a back up for this back up as greg is fragile.
ehhhhh f it.

will he come for a vet's min? if the money is the same, i would assume he would stay in south beach as miami heat has the best chance to repeat. but hey he is from long beach and if he wants to come home, i would welcome him with open arms.

i know how kmart's departure was ugly when vinny was here, but i miss his defensive abilities. yes kenyon can't shoot FTs, he doesn't rebound well, and does bring negativity with authority, but the man can defend anyone at any position.
