Griffin "more than happy" to fight off the court

Blake Griffin says he's not soft

Blake Griffin said in an interview with ESPN that he's not worried if he is being labeled as soft around the NBA and is willing to prove that he's not to his detractors in the league -- off the court.

"I've never really worried about being called soft or people thinking I'm soft," the Los Angeles Clippers' star power forward said. "If anybody wants to step and take that challenge I'm more than happy -- off the court -- because I don't want to get suspended. It's not something that I dwell on. I've never really had a problem with being soft."

Last month, teammate Chauncey Billups said on ESPN's "First Take" that Griffin might be "too nice" and NBA opponents often take advantage of that aspect of his personality.

ESPN Los Angeles

That's a way to see who is really serious and who is just trying to look hard on camera, but the league would investigate any off the court altercations. So a suspension wouldn't necessarily be out of the question.

Most players aren't going to take him up on that offer, because they're not really built that way. The thing is that it's not about fighting and knocking somebody out. It's about letting everyone know that you won't put up with their BS. You either fight fire with fire (i.e. return the hard fouls to sender) or you take your frustrations out on their whole team by beasting on them.

ZBO should be his first victim.

I don't understand how can you be soft yet he goes at every player on offense regardless of size.

I can't figure out whether this is a good or bad thing.

I want Blake to make some hard fouls/plays that just let guys like Zbo know he's there and not going anywhere. Fans don't want to see him KO some guy (well, some might) we just want to see him not take dirty plays down low. Hell, cost your team a tech, get fired up. Block someone with the intent of sending them to the floor. There's plays that you can disguise it pretty easily, AS LONG as your intention is the ball.

If he gets pushed around this year, he better do one of these things im talking about. This article doesn't really help, I can't imagine he'd come out and say 'I've made a point to foul some people hard this year'.. that'd get him even more attention lol.

not a big deal to me because Ive never viewed him as soft.

i think this comes from the flopping mostly.
but Ive never seen him run from physicality...ever.

rofl i didn't know this but why the hell does Randolph do this $hit with Griffin so much lol probably wants to test his psyche. Nah Zbo is a classic country scrapper. He would probably beat the living hell out of most NBA players.

I don't consider the stuff above 'tough' by Zbo, the dirty little cheap shots when Griffin's just going at him fairly, I hate Zbo for that reason, un-necessary fighting and rolling onto griffin, I can't tell if Zbo's got muscle or he just throws his body fat onto him, I don't blame griffin for falling over, that **** would hurt lol

It's not tough but whenever I hear current and former players talk who would you be most afraid to fight or who is your starting 5 fighting lineup, they always mention Zbo and always say you know that dude's for real, etc. But yeah, I haven't seen Zbo do this kind of stuff to anyone multiple times like he does it to Griffin. He must piss him off for some obscure reason lol

When Randolph was here, he was looking for a home. Everybody was casting him off as a problem child or moving him along when someone "better" came along. He liked it here and most of us liked him when he was here as well. Once we won the lottery, we had to move a big. We had Kaman, Camby, Griffin, Jordan and Randolph. Randolph ended up being the odd man out and moved because of the addition of Griffin. He may still harbor some ill feelings for being replaced by Griffin. Randolph is the same guy that came here and said "Elton Brand isn't better than me." He's competitive and thinks highly of himself. Perhaps when he sees Griffin, he's out to prove that he's a better player and that the Clippers made a mistake in moving him. He's happy with his situation right now and is finally being given credit, but maybe Griffin serves as a reminder.

Neither player knows the other off the court. They never crossed paths here because Randolph was moved a few weeks after Griffin was drafted.

Didnt Griffin take some MMA lessons one offseason? There was a short youtube vid of him. I think it was the lockout season.

I find this whole concept funny after watching Stephen A and Skip Bayless's take on it (i don't have espn where i live, it's on youtube).

1. Griffin gets a bad rap for getting punked by Z.Bo this year when he outplayed him the 1st 2 games of the series, got beat down by Z.Bo in game 3 and played solid in game 4 even though the team didn't perform well. HE ROLLED HIS ANKLE BEFORE GAME 5!

2. Because of Griffin's stature, lob city etc. etc. he is a target. The media, no matter how messed up it is, will reward players who give Griffin cheap shots and dirty play by saying their play is an ode to the 80s and 90s. If Griffin doesn't like it, he needs to toughen up.

3. They don't reward the REAL toughness...they reward the thuggish toughness...the Detroit Bad Boys Pistons Jordan Rules toughness. You wont hear a word from this media or any of these outlets about Randolph n Gasol getting punked by Duncan, Splitter etc. etc. and swept off the floor in the conference finals...how tough Duncan is and how Z.Bo needs to learn from that. You wont hear it. But it should be mentioned.

FOH

Let's just put it this way, ZBO is not the kind of guy you want to see of the court. I know some of you have to defend Blake and it's cool. But there is nothing soft about ZBO.

you make it sound like ZBo would take out Blake if they met off the court
