MULLENS LOOKING TO 'PROVE PEOPLE WRONG'

Post#1 » by mkwest » Wed Aug 28, 2013 8:42 pm

“There are still a lot of doubters and a lot of people kind of saying, ‘Why did the Clippers do this?’ but I hope to prove people wrong. I’m not going to let anybody down on the team,” Mullens said. “I have a lot of stuff to do this year and I’m going to have a lot better shot selection this year, playing a better role on a better team.”

That mindset has been revealed in his offseason preparation. He spent time in Los Angeles playing pickup games and working out with Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan, Matt Barnes and Darren Collison and has been going through strength training, shooting and conditioning, including track workouts, in Ohio, where he grew up.

“[The Clippers have] a great group of guys,” Mullens said. “Just the time I’ve been around the other guys already and it’s just been awesome. They’ve put together a really good, winning program, which is a lot better than what I’m coming from. I’m just really looking forward to it; to that first game and to just get out there and play with the guys.”

he could be a big surprise if he's not all talk, I mean, his skillset for a 7 footer is unique

I think the important thing is that he is aware of his shortcomings.

I like that he vows to have much better shot selection. With the team's talent, he should be able to pick and choose his spots.

Lot more pressure is on Mullens with the front office missing with a legit the third big. Hollins and Mullens have a chance to make the bench very dangerous but they both have to take their respective game to a better and smarter level.

Bobcats fan, watched Mullens extensively for two years.

As long as you guys you can turn to when Mullens is playing badly, you'll be fine. He's incredibly streaky and not just with his shooting. When he's on, he's also a solid rebounder, can make occasional defensive plays, and actually look really good. If he's your third big, expect him to go through some hot streaks and some dismal droughts. You guys should get another big that can be serviceable for when Mullens is bad. He has a lot of talent but he's incredibly inconsistent with his decision-making. I hope for his sake Chris Paul and Doc Rivers can turn him around. 7'1 275lb centers with hops and a jumper don't grow on trees.
