J.J. Redick's underrated playmaking ability

As most here I am intrigued by the Clippers chances this season at making a legitimate run at a title namely based on their roster changes made this past off-season.
But I'm most intrigued by the addition of Redick.
J.J. Redick's insertion as a starter should really open up space for Paul and the bigs simply based on his ability to knock down long jumpers.
However, what has not been discussed at length is Redick's underrated ability to make plays off catch and shoot opportunities or as the primary ball handler in pick and roll play types.
I have done some research and below provided a visual demo (images, video) with some interesting statistical analysis to add merit to this assertion. This really shows just how valuable Redick could possibly be for this season's version of the Clippers and also suggests that he is much more than just a spot up guy.

Yea, it's a good development in his game that makes him more than just a good three point shooter or off-ball player that people immediately think when they think of the acquisition.
Two things Clippers fans are happy about is that he can do more than just spot up and that while he's no shut down defender, he knows how to play his role and defense and be in the right spots.

Most of our acquisitions have been picking up guys who have certain talents and can play roles that will compliment the team such as:
JJ's shooting & ball playing
Dudley's 3&D
Collison's speed & athleticism
Mullens'....

He's tall. You can't teach height.

Think once Dudley gets in better shape we will see him have a bigger impact on both sides of the ball. Mullens has to simply find

Magic fan here, and JJ's playmaking ability is severely underrated. He'll surprise a lot of people and how complete of a player he is. Maybe playing in a big market, he'll get necessary exposure and earn a trip to 3-point shootout too. Enjoy watching him play with Paul.

It depends on how the Clippers plan on using him. On the Magic he was a good passer who moved the ball around quickly, but on the Bucks he just stood in the corner. I can't wait till Wens when we see him again.
Clippers, I haven't caught any of your games so far, how has JJ looked? Is he the Bucks JJ or the Magic JJ?

Definitely the Magic version of JJ. Doc has been using him a la Ray Allen and it's working. He comes off screens with ease and has been open time and time again, where he'll take a shot in rhythm or make a quick-hitting bounce pass to the cutter. Beautiful, fundamental basketball.

That's good, JJ has been on my favorite players in Magic history. Here is a guy who was THE man in college, then came to the NBA and didn't play for a few years. Some guys would have quit, but he just worked harder until he finally got some run.
If JJ had Gerald Green's body, we would be talking about a star player here. I think JJ gets the most out of his limited athleticism.

Agreed. I think he was trying to find his way when he first came into the league, but kept at it and found a role of being a deadly shooter. But in the process, he also became a well-rounded basketball player in general.

I believe JJ was pound for pound the strongest dude on magic, obviously not the most explosive but he has worked his ass off to get to where he is now. His last few seasons with Orlando saw his play-making and driving ability improve leaps and bounds, I'm excited to see how Doc uses him tomorrow night -- he's going to get a lot of love at Amway when he returns
Redick, a perfect piece to the puzzle.

Arash Markazi, ESPNLA.com (11/9/13)When Doc Rivers became the head coach and senior vice president of basketball operations for the Los Angeles Clippers almost five months ago, there were a handful of players he targeted.
It was a realistic list of available role players who would fit his system and could be acquired through free agency or a sign-and-trade deal since the Clippers were already over the salary cap.
The name at the top of that list was J.J. Redick.
Redick is usually the last player on the practice court for the Clippers, working on his shooting long after the rest of the team is done. While Redick might be a more complete player than he gets credit for, his shooting ability is still something his teammates marvel at.
“The guy can shoot the basketball, it’s unbelievable,” Blake Griffin said. “The best part about playing with him is that he never stops moving, cutting and running off screens. He’s a great fit for us, not just because he gives us another scorer, but he allows for guys to space the floor.”
