Clippers meet with Odom, players expect him to sign soon

Post#1 » by mkwest » Thu Nov 14, 2013 8:51 am

The Los Angeles Clippers and Los Angeles Lakers continue to monitor Lamar Odom's progress as closely as they can, and would consider signing the enigmatic free-agent forward should Odom prove that his personal and legal issues are behind him, according to sources with knowledge of both teams' thinking.

Sources told ESPN.com that the Clippers and Lakers -- who both registered interest in signing Odom this past summer until his private life became a near-daily subject for the tabloid media -- will have renewed interest in the 33-year-old if he indeed makes a comeback this season.

Odom recently began training again with an eye toward making a return to the floor during the second half of the season, sources have said.

The Clippers currently have 14 players on their roster. They are considering several options for that 15th roster spot, sources say, which is among the reasons -- along with luxury-tax concerns -- that they kept the spot open coming out of training camp.

Would be nice to have a 6'10" guy who can actually rebound and play defense coming off of the bench. Still this guy worries me.

Well, if he does make it back, we know he won't be overweight.

If he is clean and stays clean, then I'd welcome him back later in the season. He's unreliable on offense, but knows how to rebound and defend.

Lol, sadly his situation is a bit different as Beasley was at least using a non debilitating drug

so Lamar has had two stints with the Clippers.
both ending similarly.

we really need to re-visit this a 3rd time.
I get it...the 1st time it was weed...there were years and ships in between and this situation now is different.
but why not save ourselves the time and avoid the next "different" situation.

Hell no he loves the Lakers let him go there. If he is not 100% bought in being a clippers find another option. I hope front office has looked overseas , dleague or a retired big looking to make a comeback. At this point we don't need an amazing big just serviceable on defense and rebounding.

There are many reasons not to re-sign him, but his defense can help us so much. He was our best defender and best rebounder last season. His offense was horrible, but hopefully he'll be able to move better now that he isn't as heavy. Whether he can regain his shooting touch on the perimeter or not (although his mid-range was decent last season) is another question.

Yup agreed. He would be a huge addition defensively. Any form of offense would just be a plus.

Anything that takes away mullens PT is a-o-k w me!

Any idea why Jamison has logged 0 mins?

Doc claims he's saving Jamison for later in the season. It's still odd that he hasn't played a single second even though he is healthy.

Ya I can understand limited minutes for an older vet. But zero minutes seems odd. I talked to him for about a minute a couple months ago at work-he stopped in the Charlotte best buy I work at-and seemed very happy to be w us as a ring contender, so it's odd he hasn't even logged a single seconds of playing time

I thought the Clips should have pursued Ivan Johnson before he went overseas. Would have added some toughness up front off the bench

Don't like the idea give a hungry kid looking for a chance an opportunity. Odom will always have his Laker heart let them figure it out. Franchise can't be lazy go scout and look for a gem. We don't even need a all start sixth man big at this point we need a defensive rebounder.

Odom is a pretty big risk for us on a few different levels but he is exactly the kind of defensive bench player we need. He also has a decent passing game which is a bonus.

Anyone else get the feeling Jamison is going to be full of rust come playoffs?

I'm sure at some point he will see minutes. I doubt he would play much in the postseason for us though, won't be using the bench as much
