Clippers' Roster Achilles: 3 & Backup 4/5

Well, we all know that a backup big man is a missing piece of the playoff puzzle but I'm not quite going to panic until we hear about the possibility of a buyout of Emeka Okafor's contract after the trade deadline, but another weak spot on the roster has been our small forward position. This has been surprising given that we gave up Eric Bledsoe to shore up both wing spots (SG & SF). While injuries have played a part in both Matt Barnes and Jared Dudley's struggle to contribute to the team, we need to get more out of the position. The sad thing is that our best hope at this point might be the return of Reggie Bullock whenever that will be.

if this game doesn't have Doc aggressively working the phones, i dunno what will.
it undid us...from the offensive rebounds.
to griff not being tall enough to affect LA's jumper.

I woke up this morning and, before my morning run, began searching big men.
searched high and low.
i scoured through nearly every team and realized a good portion of them wouldn't even deal with us.
but...
http://hoopshype.com/free_agency/power_forwards.htmI'd take anybody in the top 5 except for Tyrus Thomas.
go get them...please.
and go get them before I start pointing at Antawn Jamison and complaining about how I never wanted him and he doesn't do crap for us.

5/14 of these free agent Power Forwards are former Clippers and three of the Top 5 are former Clips. Hopefully Gary Sacks decides to bring home one of them. My stomach groans when seeing all these offensive rebounds by the other teams.

As much as I recognize the need to get someone, I still don't want to panic in just getting anyone. Our situation is delicate since we're up against the hard cap and adding someone now may take us out of getting someone better later on. Unless a no-brainer opportunity presents itself, we'll have to grin and bear it. I want the team to definitely rebound better. Blake has been doing a tremendous job of late and DJ has been putting up impressive numbers but his technique could use more work. The rest of the team also has to help out on the boards as the second-chance opportunities are killing us.

As far as rebounding our bigs out rebound other bigs mostly every night. We are not getting wing and guard help on long rebounds. The perimeter players need to stop leaking out with no athletic ability and or poor shooting so what's the point. Dudley needs to be getting 3 or 4 boards at least.

We cant just trade for someone. We need to either do an unbalanced trade or waive Waayns/Jackson.
I still think we hold serve to see what happens around the deadline. If we dont find a deal we immediately look to see what the Suns do with Okafor.
We also do have the option of trading/waiving Waayns and signing Jason Collins to two 10-days. I think he is a solid option without disrupting chemistry.

Very true we are still playing well, particularly considering how difficult our schedule has been to start the season. I'm sure we will find the right fit, its just painful to wait.
On a side note, how disappointing has Mullens been? I didn't expect much but geez.

The only person who can really save the Clippers is Kevin Garnett. The NBA did do them a favor with the gag order so that the Clippers wouldn't be forced to trade DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin. But Wednesday's gaffe of a game that featured an unjust Blake Griffin ejection plotted by their arch nemesis Golden State Warriors has forced the front office into panic mode. They need to revamp their bench completely.
I do know this: Garnett's been playing bad on purpose so that he could get out of the Nets. If he leaves, and all the pieces come together, the Clippers could have a Cops lineup featuring Lamar Odom, Stephen Jackson, and Kevin Garnett. That's the Clipper's plan.

How does Garnett get out of the nets? A trade isn't going to happen due to the money that he makes and I don't see the Nets Waiving a player making that kind of money.

Actually, a deal that would make sense, if the Nets want to continue with the Jason Kidd disaster and tank, would be to trade Garnett for Bynum, then waive Bynum. With Paul Pierce's expiring contract and Andrei Kirilenko's player option, Brooklyn could save quite the chunk of salary cap space for the upcoming off-season.

That might work for both clubs, still doesn't get KG to the Clippers.
KG to Clips Quite Unlikely

True. The only way the Clips get KG would be if a team buys him out and there isn't any team that would be willing to buy out the remaining amount left for this season on top of the $12 million for next season. I'm afraid it's a lost cause for now.

From what I'm gathering from different websites, and the news of Andrew Bynum being let go, this is the Clipper's master plan:
Code: Select all
PG: Paul | Collison | Jackson
SG: Redick | Crawford | Bullock
SF: Dudley* | Barnes | Jamison
PF: Griffin | Artest | Hollins
CE: Jordan | Odom | Garnett
* Replace Jared Dudley with Andrew Bynum (putting Matt Barnes or Reggie Bullock at starting spot) or with Carmelo Anthony (given the Knick's losing ways and a possible rumor of a buyout). The last is based on the following:

In all likely events, I have a hunch the Clips retain Dudley and go for Bynum. Which leaves Kevin Garnett out of the equation for this season. Might be for the best.

Would love Melo to take a massive pay cut during FA to sign with us in the hope to win a ring. More realistically I'd like to trade for Danny Granger to play our starting 3 and sign Odom at the 4.
Paul /Collison
Crawford / Redick / Bullock
Granger / Barnes / Jackson
Griffin / Odom
Jordan / Hollins

Melo won't take a pay cut even if it kills his firstborn. IF, and that is a big IF, we can somehow financially manage to fit Melo in, that would automatically means that we will have to dump the contracts of DJ+JJ+Barnes, or DJ+Dudley+Jamal to make that happen.

If Melo wants 10 or 12 mil we could make it work but I doubt it.
