Al Farouq Aminu while Paul george was available (2010)
Trey Thompkins in the 2nd round...one pick ahead of Chandler Parsons (2011)
everything is at play here:
- how they were in college
- the perception of them in the draft
- would this have affected any other deals
everything.

I think b/c George went to Fresno, some people were not sure how he would work out in the NBA. I look at the past 10 years of Clipper draft picks & did anyone think DJ was going to be as good as he is coming out of the 2nd Round? I also think w/ Aminu, Los Angeles was infatuated w/ seeing Uerkel all grown up, he was a decent ACC player, so you knew he was good.
Parsons, let's face it...... Fundamental, good looking, rich white kid, we all saw Christian Laettner in him and most people passed.

Re: Do the following draft choices bother you guys?
oh and we could also of had gordon hayward
1 pick ahead of afa.
but again, we woulda had to trade 1 if not both to NOLA when it was time to grab cp3. so.... either way, we wouldn't have 1 if not both of those players... then again, it woulda been easier for us to let go of eb12 in the hopes to keep either George/Hayward or Parsons.
In the end, shoulda coulda woulda. I mean shiet, we coulda gotten kobe instead of lorenzen wright...

Looking back AFA over Paul George was dumb. That being said. Doubt we get CP if we had Blake and Paul George. I'm happy where we are. Just get a non garbage backup big

I think if we threw in Bledsoe instead the trade would have worked. CP/Blake/PG core would be ridiculous.

i think about what if we never dealt for CP3, drafted Paul George, and held on to Bledsoe.
Bledsoe - George - Griffin trio would have been sick, and retainable. we could have sported
bledsoe - Jamal - George - Blake - DJ as our starting 5 and the next thunder-esque squad. bledsoe and George's defense would have been good enough to overcome Jamal and blake's. only downside of this is that without CP3, we have no idea how we could have grown without the leadership and clear direction that CP3 brings beyond his physical basketball skills.

no lie tho..... eb12 was not even close to being how he is now with cp3... EJ still woulda been shipped with eb12 for sure. remember we had mo mo too, so maybe he woulda been packaged also

Re: Do the following draft choices bother you guys?
The AFA over George? Nope George had a slow rookie year and AFA still had upside as a project they both would of been traded. Oshley loved Bledsoe no way he deals him.
Thompkins hell yes!!! Thompkins in itself was a wasted pick he never played one meaningful second and was always injured. Sad part if he showed anything he would still be on the team and looking at our backup PF's he could of been backing Blake.

Re: Do the following draft choices bother you guys?
So many Clipper fans wanted George. In my heart, I felt that he had stardom in him. Just a hunch/feeling. I wasn't distraught at selecting Aminu at the time, because he was the higher ranked prospect and did fall to us. However, there's was definitely a feeling of "what if?" We passed over Granger for Korolev in '05 and did the same in '10 with George. Our blunder was the Pacers' gain each time. At the time, the player that I really wanted to fall to us was Monroe, but Detroit swiped him the pick before us.
To make myself feel better, I like to think that George would have likely been included in the deal for Paul. There's a possibility that we offer Bledsoe instead of George, but that's far from a certainty. A Paul, George & Griffin trio would have been devastating for the rest of the league.
_____
I did like Parsons and hoped that the Clippers would consider him. I was glad that he was available at the time of our pick along with a couple others. I can't get upset too though, because I really was hoping that we would have drafted Jeremy Tyler and Josh Selby. Neither of them have done much of anything in the league. Tyler has gotten another chance with the Knicks, so maybe he can find a way to stick. Only a handful of those 2nd rounders are still playing, and Parsons and Isaiah Thomas are really the only ones to write home about.
_____
We don't really have to be too concerned about missing out on 2nd rounders for awhile since we don't really have any, but the FO needs to really step their game up on making solid selections with our 1sts. With limited salary flexibility, finding a late round gem is practically a necessity for us.
For example, the Spurs drafted George Hill at the 26th pick in 2008 and got decent production from him for 3 years at just over a $1M each season. They then trade him to Pacers for the 15th pick (Kawhi Leonard) in the 2011th draft. This is Leonard's 3rd season and he's averaged about $1.8M per season, while Hill has earned $8M per the last 2 seasons in Indiana. The Spurs have gotten quality output for 6 years and counting from what began as the 26th pick in a draft and have only had to pay about $8.7M or $1.45M per season. That's exceptional management.
