DJ in the Dunk Contest?

Post#1 » by mttwlsn16 » Fri Jan 17, 2014 11:20 pm

@LAClipperNatio1: The NBA has asked DeAndre Jordan to participate in the 2014 slam dunk contest. The decision now lies on DJ. #RepLAC http://t.co/2oS4QEs6zF

Hope he does it! I think he will.

In the past, he said that he would only do it if he played on Sunday. I'm hoping that he's softened that stance and participates.

He should of went last year if he doesn't know the dunk contest can help with all star recognition in the future.

Jordan's All-Star update

DeAndre Jordan wants to be in the All-Star game as a participant, not just as a dunker.

So when NBA officials approached the Clippers' center before Friday's game about being in the dunk contest, Jordan told them what his true wish was.

"I just told them I wanted to see what happens," Jordan said. "I'm not trying to disrespect them. But I want to be in the All-Star game as a player and not just as a dunker."

Brad Turner, LA Times

If this were the East, he'd have no issue in making it imo. Unfortunately for him, the West so many talented players that it is inevitable that someone that is deserving will be left off. It happens every season. Leading the league in rebounds and FG% along with being top 3 in blocks should certainly help his case, but I don't think he'll be able to overcome the stiff competition on his own. Several players would likely have to miss the game due to injury for him to make it.

The C position being killed off hurt him as well. He would of never started of Dwight but coaches will put forwards in instead.

Let's be real, he has no chance at all to be in the game, he's not ready to be an allstar yet.

He seems like one of those 'too tall to win' guys, meaning all your standard good dunks (windmills, double clutches, etc.) won't look that special when he does it, because he's tall. Although Dwight did win it one year...

He deserves a reserve spot but the West is just too deep at PF/C.

All-Star in DJ's Future?

Sean Highkin, USA Today Sports (3/8/14)
Q: One of the biggest factors in the Clippers’ success this season has been the improvement of DeAndre Jordan. As someone who played with him last year, how much of this did you see coming?

A:
DeAndre’s playing the way we all thought. We all saw that potential in him. I think metally [sic], it was a question of whether he could commit to that, and this year he’s become that player. We all saw it in glimpses (last year), but we’re starting to see it on a consistent basis this year. I think it just sort of speaks to Doc, saying those things about DeAndre publicly showed that he endorsed him and he believed in him. There were talks about trading him before Doc came in, that maybe DeAndre wouldn’t be there. Doc has just been able to connect, recognizing things in his personality, and getting him on the same page and getting him to buy in. DeAndre’s been a model citizen. I’m sure there are ways he can improve, but he’s embraced the role Doc has him in, and he’s thrived in that role. Regardless of what happens this year, I think DeAndre comes back next year and he’s even better and potentially an All-Star.

Hopefully next year he will showcase himself even more with the last year on his contract.
