IMO it would have been nice to see:
DJ in the dunk contest
Redick in the 3pt contest
Jamal Crawford in the skills challenge
Mullens in the D-League all stars game
Who would you guys like to have seen? and
Who would be our best chance to take home a win?

All star weekend - what ifs.

Ya I'm disappointed none of our guys are in any events. Oh well, at least the dunk contest has a legit group finally. And they asked DJ he's just too stubborn. Won't do it unless he's an Allstar.
Lillard in every event is cool

DJ's trippin'.
I understand that he wants to play in the big game, but the likelihood of that ever happening is pretty slim. Maybe if he played in the Eastern Conference. If he does the Dunk Contest, he's still able to hang out with his peers and help build his own individual brand. He received a ton of hype over the Brandon Knight dunk and the dunk contest would probably only further his own celebrity. I think that he would have a very good chance of winning it and he's just being silly in turning it down.

DJ is a fool for not doing the dunk contest and building his brand. Can't believe he did not step up and compete he didn't even have to win just go and freaking try something.

The all star game uses players voted by the fans. If DJ wants to be in the game he needs more fans. Winning a dunk contest will get you fans.

Actually, I think "building his brand" is the reason he hasn't done it. Whether it's working in his favor or not, I think he wants to be known as a great player, and not just a human highlight reel.

I disagree.
How would you feel about entering a dunk contest when the general consensus is that all you can do is dunk? I understand him completely. He wants to be recognized for other parts of his game before he gives you the opportunity to permanently label him nothing but a dunker. I see his move as a challenge to himself, not those people. Like he doesn't feel he played well enough to change these people's minds, so he has to work harder to prove them wrong and he wont participate in the other stuff until he proves them wrong.

i stand by DJ's decision here too. there is nothing wrong with this at all. if making the all star team to get involved with any function at AS weekend is motivating him to do better and become better, all the power to him. i used the same tactic of limiting myself many social activities or behaviors only until i made my academic goals worked very well for me too. for some of us, there is no better motivational factor than self discipline and self reward.
ehhhhh f it.

Understand wanting to be more than a dunker but you have to be real with yourself and master your craft.

He has been a guest on sports programs for the sole purpose of talking about his dunking ability. He's already leading the league in rebounding and field goal percentage, so he's doing a little more than just dunking. Provided he stays healthy, he'll end up with the rebounding title at season's end.
As far as building his brand goes, why not build your own celebrity in a positive light? It's not like he's Harold Miner or Terence Stansbury where he'll only be known for the Dunk Contest period. He's currently not even on the radar as far as front court voting goes. Putting himself out there on Saturday Night could help him in that regard. He has a great personality, and introducing himself on that stage could help in terms of possibly snagging endorsements. Kia anyone?
I know that he wants to earn all-star status and that's cool, but I just believe that the benefits of going outweigh those of staying at home.
