CP3, Redick, Collison...

Post#1 » by okpistolpete » Tue Feb 11, 2014 11:01 pm

Darren Collison shot the ball incredibly well as a starter while CP3 was out, so I decided to look at his overall percentages to see how they stack up against other players. On the year, DC's at 46.5% FG, 38.0% 3P, and 86.8% FT. So I decided to see which players in the NBA are averaging at least 46% FG, 35% 3P, and 85% FT. The results are pretty f'n cool:

Darren Collison
Chris Paul
JJ Redick
Kevin Durant
Steph Curry
Dirk Nowitzki

THAT'S IT! Six players in the entire league, three of which are considered to be three of the best shooters in the history of the game, and we have the other three.

i believe the DC one was because 1) cp3/jj were out. 2) bg32 was baaaaalllllinnnnnnnnn. he had a lot of attention and left a lot of people open who actually hit their shots.

i like it.

Even still, that is impressive when you consider that the presumed increase in shot volume per game hasn't taken away from maintaining such high percentages across the board.

Yeah, the argument can be made that his numbers actually should have decreased as he was facing starting PG's instead of backups, and had higher volume which nearly always results in decreased efficiency.

By the way, for those interested, here were his percentages as a starter replacing CP3: 47% FG, 43% 3P, 90% FT.

dude what does that got to do with percentages? a player can accumulate more overall raw stats such as points, rebounds, or assists when given more minutes, but often times more playing time against better competition ( in this case, as pistolpete have said, against starters rather than the backups ) would predictably lower the efficiency, and overall shooting percentages. DC went the other way. more he played, more efficient he's gotten. that is not typical at all. great information, BTW to know that 3 out of top 6 of those critical criteria belong to the clips.
ehhhhh f it.

hmm... that was my point lol...

cp3 and jj were out ... so he got more mins... and bg was playing at a level where he demanded attention and gave everyone open shots...

soo.....

ok :)
