Thought he should never have been signed, but about $2M and two rosters spots have been freed.

LOL no one wanted to post in here. Great reactions guys. I wasn't sure that we could find a taker for him :D
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

The sad thing about Philly now is that he'll probably start for them lolol. They're so bad now.
If the Clippers win the championship next year I'm getting banned from RealGM

and i thought it would take giving away picks to dump their contracts. we actually got a 2nd rounder that is most likely a bit higher than our 2nd we gave them and a draft right to somebody? not sure if this is Doc's doing or not, but whoever made this happen deserves a medal.
ehhhhh f it.

can't release a guy we don't have. we got us a draft right of a player who was drafted in 2005 but never came over to US. chances are he never will. but the point is that we actually gained something, anything, on paper rather than giving out meaningful assets to get rid of them and open a roster spot.

Self Bail-Out

From my understanding, the Clippers packaged a future 2nd-round pick along with Mullens for a conditional 2nd-round pick, which I suspect means that the conditions are unlikely to be met so that Philly can keep it. The NBA does not allow players to be traded for nothing. Jamison and cash were dealt for the draft rights to a player who will likely never set foot on an NBA floor.

Doc got off relatively easy by only having to give up cash and a future 2nd-round pick, but I don't want this to be a habit for him where he gives up future assets in order to bail himself out of bad signings. He should be more selective in his player personnel decisions.

all the more reason to keep Doc as the last say so but have Gary Sacks or someone similar to operate day to day GM duties.

Lowe & Simmons on Mullens Deal

Post#14 » by Ranma » Fri Feb 21, 2014 6:38 am

The Trade Deadline Diary

Bill Simmons, Grantland (2/20/14)
I have three thoughts …

1. We learned a valuable lesson with Doc’s signing of Mullens: “Don’t trade for someone who had the best game of his career against you.” Oh, and “Don’t rely on someone who plays basketball like it’s Pop-A-Shot as your backup big man when you’re trying to win a title.” That one, too.

2. I don’t think the Clips care about falling under the tax. They’re clearly a buyout guy waiting to happen. My guess: Jason Thompson. My backup guess: Kris Humphries. My backup backup guess: Chris Kaman. My backup backup backup guess: Emeka Okafor. It’s going to be one of those four guys.

3. Jason Collins? Jason Collins! JASON COLLINS!!! LET’S DO THIS!!!

Zach Lowe, Grantland (2/20/14)
The Clips have only 12 guys on their roster, so they’re not going to duck the tax after all; they need to add someone. You listed all the good candidates, including Jason Collins, who is based in L.A. and has played for Doc before. That would be a nice story. Thompson would be an awfully expensive buyout, with three years left on his deal after this one.

Bill Simmons, Grantland (2/20/14)
By the way, Doc Rivers loved Collins in Boston and claimed that Collins was one of the best people he ever coached. Also, Collins defended Dwight Howard as well as just about anyone. He’s Kendrick Perkins for one-tenth the price, only he’s smiling instead of scowling. And the advanced metrics community doesn’t break out in hives when they think about him. Sure, the thought of Donald Sterling being Jason Collins’s boss is frightening for about 243 different reasons. But I hope they sign him, anyway.

The Sixers waived Earl Clark.

hes younger and taller than Danny Granger.
I'd consider him over Granger.
