The Clippers defense is 23rd in points allowed per 100 possessions...
Let's see how the defense improves heading into April. Assuming we stay/get healthy, I see no reason why we cant improve that mark into the top 10, win the division and catch the Spurs for the 2 seed.
Step 1: Chris Paul is back
Step 2: Glen Davis in the rotation
Step 3: The team buckles down and focuses on limiting penetration
Step 4: We sign another competent center
The race is on.

Tonight was a great start best defense we have played in quite some time.

Absolutely,
The guys really dug in defensively, and recording 12 steals/forcing 20 turnovers definitely helped.

i know the thread is intended for the last 30 days, but the future 30 days is what interest me more. i think we can get real hot and build a streak of Ws going into the playoffs. in fact, for the rest of the regular season our goal should be going 20-2.

No, you're are correct. The premise is how our next 30 days relates to the 30 days prior to that.
I dont think our goal needs to be going 20-2. The goal needs to be to figure out a rotation, especially in the front court, solidify our defense and try to take the No. 2 seed.
In fact, I wrote a column on this earlier in the week.

I think 20 wins is attainable and it should give us the #2 or #3 seed in the tough west.

I'm not sure if I even want the 1 or 2 seed because I don't want to face the griz. We can probably beat them but one thing I know for sure is it will be a slug match wears us out.

I'm not scared of that team and I suggest our fans get that "the boogie monster is in Memphis" mentality out of us.
reality is...Blake matched or outplayed Randolph in the 1st 2 games.
we played a close game 3...got creamed in game 4....and then Griffin rolled his ankle on Scrotum's foot.
we dunno what could have or would have happened....all we know is we received a ton of hate and Griffin sucks/ can't walk and chew bubble gum bullsh**
I give the Grizzlies credit for their win....and I thank them.
without their win, we'd have Vinny as our coach.
but I am, in no way, scared of that team.

I'm not scared of them but I don't think they are a good match for us and it would be a draining series imo. The west is tough enough as is so give me the easiest first round matchup as possible.

Yeah I want to face the bears as well, but they're a tough match up for us and even though I know we can beat them, it would be a grindin series, we'd probably end up with a couple of injured as we always do when we play them.
I wanna see them on the 2nd round, let us have something easier in the 1st round like the Mavs or even the Rockets or the Blazers. Then we can go full on playoff mode and go at them with all we have.
I agree the most important thing is to figure out our rotation, get consistent with our defense and be healthy. But match ups are VERY important. We would have been in the 2nd round last year if we had won one more game in the RS, and it'd have changed the whole perception about our team. VDN would probably still be here so it probably was for the best, but I don't want to get f*cked by match ups again this year.

The thing is the West is so deep that we're going to have a tough matchup no matter where we end up. Dallas and Houston are really the only teams I'd feel confident going against. Golden State, Memphis, and Portland are all dangerous. So for me, I'm taking the mentality of "Secure home-court advantage for more than just one round and win games down the stretch to build momentum."

I would like our chances against Portland's defense, but considering how bad our perimeter defense has been in the past month+, I would not want to see Golden State.
In reality, if our defense doesnt improve we are going to be in another dogfight to get out of the first round.

Remember, Portland has been the best 3pt shooting team in the league this year...

Yes, but their defense has been pathetic all season. Meanwhile, Golden State's defense has been much better than their offense AND they can fill it up from 3.
