Fairweather Fans
you ever heard the old joke about the Laker fan sitting at the Clipper game saying, "look at all these bandwagoners here?"
yea, just heard it.
the talk of bandwagoners pisses me off to no end. It's not that I don't believe that there is somebody somewhere who started pulling for us after Blake or CP but i believe that talk is really over stated. I don't feel like any Laker fans have converted and I truly believe we sell out because we're just a good show.
Furthermore, I truly believe if you were to tally the # of fans in each fan base, we'd probably be at the bottom.
so it made me wonder. If we won a championship THIS YEAR, how well attended would our parade be? The thought hit me a few nights ago and I got nervous that nobody would be there except the few fans that we have and SOME laker fans who aren't extremely bitter.
thoughts? facts? anything?

It's LA, I would imagine the parade would be jam packed. Clipper fans, laker fans, dodger angel kings ducks fans, celebrities, casual nba fans, etc.

Due to time zones, the games 5-7 of finals are usually mon/wed/fri at 11am tip off at my local time.
Normally a group of mates and I take the week off work to watch all games, and play golf or some **** on days in between. I couldn't do it like that if the Clippers made the final though, I would be an absolute wreck the whole week and would cry like a bitch if they won.

I see more kids & teens wearing Clipper gear in the Inland Empire & I think that is cool, we got the next generation of Clipper fans.

this is what I am excited about.
we're good enough now to steal the young crowd. I'd assume theyre like ages 7-12 or something like that. They have no allegiances and just want to see Blake and DeAndre fly. Their parents are probably like, "waitwut....oh nvm, it would be fun to go watch these boys hoop. I'll but tickets."
I mean Darius, Q and Lamar sucked me in and we weren't even good at that point.
in 2025...some 22 year old is going to be on real gm like, "yea man, don't u remember the good ole days with CP and Blake....DeAndre coming from the rafters to catch lobs"

Re: Fairweather Fans
I just think the talk of fairweather and bandwagon fans is dumb in the first place. Even if a fan just started rooting for a team when they started winning, the only thing that really matters is that they're cheering on the team in the first place. Yeah, we might have quite a few fans that started to cheer for the Clippers in the past few years, but can you blame them? We were horrible for decades. Are we "truer" fans because we cheered for awful teams? I'm not so sure that's true.

who else is flying in if we win it all?
0% chance I'm sober at the parade....might get cross faded depending on my situation.
0% chance my shirt will be on at this parade.

I think you are missing the point. let's say you have a little brother who is autistic. the kid has never been able socialize with other kids of his class and rode the short yellow bus to school the whole time, teachers giving up on him because they think he is (Please Use More Appropriate Word). girls of his age teased and made fun of him, the boys of his age picked on him at lunch everyday. but you, the older brother never lost faith that your autistic brother is actually a genius, and you have seen him show it while you played cards, monopoly, chess, or whatever the activity two to engaged in. you didn't waver your undying love and believed the whole time he would grow up to be something great.
now the kid brother is 27, all of his classmates from grade school are either knocked up or working at some dead end meaningless job, the kid who nobody gave a second thought becomes a double phD in Chemistry and Physics and is now a candidate for the Nobel **** prize.
only now, since he became something nobody expected him to be, which is to become a recognizable figure, his hometown loves him even though he still has the same social quarks and still unable to get along with others as before, but wants to make a sign for their town after him. but all along, you knew, the brother who never let others get away making fun of your kid brother, who loved him the most all this time, never lost faith and still is the biggest supporter for the highly accomplished man who inside is still the same autistic boy.
that is the relationship for those who stuck by this franchise for decades, when being teased relentlessly on playground for rocking this team's jersey back in 91, and it is also natural to build a strong dislike for those who made fun of your jersey who now is casually saying they were fans of this team all along, just could not let their purple and piss bleeding peers to know it.
ehhhhh f it.

BTW, the post above isn't to demean others who wants to join the wagon. it is simply to explain why those of us who persevered all through out, seem to have a maniacal attitude with our recent success, and although we are not asking to be recognized for our devotion, we appreciate each other who have done so. in fact, I will start doing just that with my sig.
ehhhhh f it.

Re: Fairweather Fans
I wouldn't miss the parade for anything if we have one. I've also noticed that the Clippers have really drawn the kids in and they wear the merchandise. In general I've seen more Clipper ****, hats, jerseys, flags, etc out there.
Welcome mvarga, always nice to have another Clipper fan join the forum.

I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

91? Don't you mean 92 and 93?
I still remember fan base being pumped up in 2002-03 thinking Clippers will make the playoffs and start real rivalry in LA. Jokes aside, that team was very good and could have been very special. I always blamed Gentry for a bad season.

I didn't realize you were referring to a time you became a fan. I thought you were referring to time when Clippers were very good.
