Which NBA team do the L.A. Kings resemble in terms of their style, caliber (past or present)?

And how close/far are they to being considered a "dynasty"?

Kings remind of how the Spurs used to get the 6th SEED and win it all. Freaking Sutter, you know that guy will fight any of his players b/c he & all his brothers were tough SOBs. Sutter is like Pop, quiet and full of sarcasm & won't take whiny crybabies.
They need to win a total of 3 Cups in 6 years to be considered really good; just go back to the late 70's early 80's and how good the Habs were, they just kept reloading.

I can't think of another program/franchise that I admire more than the San Antonio Spurs.

That's high praise; to make that comparison.

Are you referring to the Rockets? I don't remember the Spurs ever winning it all as a low seed

On that note, it is kind of hard to take hockey completely serious when two low seeds are in the finals. Seems like the regular season is even more irrelevant in the NHL than the NBA. I know the Blackhawks won it all as the top seed last season, but that was an anomaly.

all about a HOT GOALIE in the Playoffs. No other sport depends on one positional player as much.

When have the Spurs ever won from the 6th seed?
:o

thought the last team to do that was the 95 Rockets.

The LAKINGS are and were underdogs both times they won (2012/2014) not sure I'd compare them to the Spurs, maybe the mid-90's b2b Rockets in terms of rankings and expectations.

LA Kings = Spurs and Pistons

Organizationally speaking, the Los Angeles Kings are like the Spurs in terms of building a system and developing players, but they aren't as established, so they are more like an Oklahoma City Thunder in that regard. From a personnel standpoint, they remind me of the 2004 Detroit Pistons, which Larry Brown coached to a championship, that had a good mix of veteran leadership without any real superstar talent but succeeded on a team effort with contributions coming from all and clutch plays from certain individuals. Even that is not really a perfect analogy as the Pistons ruined the development of Darko Milicic and the Kings have a possible budding superstar in Drew Doughty. However, the Kings haven't really made the most out of top draft choices relying instead on solid successes with lower picks, which also slightly differs from the Spurs (David Robinson, Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Kawhi Leonard).

Here's a video of a Bill Simmons podcast with sportscasting legend, Al Michaels, who happens to be a huge Kings fan and close friend of Doc Rivers. Both Simmons and Michaels think Doc should be Sportsman of the Year based on how he's steered the Clippers franchise in the wake of the Sterling melodrama. Simmons thinks he did such a wonderful job that free agents including LeBron can't help but take notice of what an appealing situation the Clippers are close to now presenting (after Sterling is officially ousted). Michaels also recounts a story where Jerry Buss told him that Doc would have been the Lakers' coach had he not just signed with Boston and how Doc absolutely loves Kobe Bryant. The whole episode is a great listen even at an hour and just over seven minutes, but if you want to listen only to the Clippers portion and Doc Rivers anecdote of the conversation, start at the 31-minute-12-second time stamp.
