Don't go there(?) topic: Blake for LeBron?

Post#1 » by 50CALguns » Tue Jun 17, 2014 11:48 pm

Is this even a question Clips fans want to entertain?

I know we'd love to have both, but what if that were impossible.
If it comes down to it, would you trade Blake to get LeBron?

Who else would LeBron attract to L.A. (free agents, etc)?

LeBron James to the Los Angeles Clippers makes sense
Yahoo Sports (Jun 17, 2014)

The Clippers will need to get this Donald Sterling mess worked out obviously. But that aside, there doesn't appear to be another team that 1) is close to winning a title, 2) is a city that James would approve, and 3) has the pieces in place now to not only acquire James but ship out a high impact player that the Heat would be pleased with acquiring.

And that piece the Clippers would have to part with?

We're talking about Blake Griffin.

He is a perennial All-Star whose game is indeed expanding before our very eyes. But if you're the Los Angeles Clippers and Griffin stands between you and acquiring LeBron James, how tough of a call is that really to make?

No to Blake for LeBron. No to Chris for LeBron. Yes to a package of DeAndre, Jamal, Bullock, Dudley, multiple firsts for LeBron.

it's not always about winning it all at all costs. this franchise needs more than any other, to have a star player we drafted to play out his career here and get his jersey retired in the rafters, even more than any championship banners, even if that means we are gonna be "always a bridesmaid, but never the bride" for the next 2 decades. we are starting to collect the divisional champ banners now, soon we will hang a conference champ banners. with or without the NBA finals banner, we don't even have a single player's jersey retired yet in our history. it is about the damn time, and who better than Blake Griffin to be that guy?

I agree... Blake is young and already has achieved so much. If he stays a Clipper he will go down as our GOAT.

In terms of Lebron, he definitely fills our starting SF problem! I don't think a blake for lbj trade would make us any better. We can't trade CP3 because his friendship with Lebron is a big reason why he would even consider coming here. I would happily part with DJ simply because I believe we could groom another athletic C to take his spot. Having a player like Lebron would also help recruit ring chasing vets who will play for the minimum. To sum up, I think it would be great, however I don't think it will happen.

Straight B.S. right there (no offense)...
Retired jersey OVER Championship !?!$?

It's one thing to say Blake gives the Clippers a longer window than LeBron for winning a Championship(s), being younger, etc.... but to say a Championship is not as important as having a 'Retired Jersey'-career franchise guy.

GTFO.

you must be a younger fan, and that's okay to have your opinion.

but for old timers like myself who outdates ClipperDarrell by nearly a decade or more in the rathole that is LA sports arena watching Danny Manning and Doc Rivers as our top 2 players, it is demeaning to have just another player to stop by for a short while to achieve the ultimate prize.

you can call it a BS all you want, but we the old timers want the legitimacy by having our very own Hall of Famer to show us the promise land, not just another World B Free or Bill Waltons who would retire in someone else's jersey.

looks like i am in the minority here, but I would trade lebron for blake. DJ, crawford, and fillers for Lebron is an easy call.

I choose the clippers over any player. I want a championship.I want to win one soon for ralph lawler too. blake is my favorite player, but anyone is tradeable to me. Especially if we are getting the best player on the planet. he is only 4 years older than blake and has no history of injuries too.

It'd be nice to have a career-Clipper Hall of Famer, of course.
But to say you'd rather have that than a Title.... that's craziness.

If the Clippers already had Championships, okay. But getting the first has to be the ultimate goal.

P.S.
And as if being a longer-suffering fan make you want Championship less than younger fans(???) In the context of Championship vs career-Clipper HOF guy.

Plus this...

LeBron was Clippers fans' best friend when the Sterling stuff broke. The guy took a stance. While everyone was pointing the finger at L.A. and the Clippers (boycott, how could you be a fan?, fugk the Clippers, disband the team, let players walk away, etc)... LeBron knew it was truly a Players vs Owners issue, not rest of the world vs Clippers.

The DC Post - May 14, 2014
LeBron James has said he will lead a player boycott if Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling still owns the team next season.

“I was just in the locker room, three, four days ago,” said Roger Mason Jr., the vice president of the NBA players association in an interview with Jim Rome for “Jim Rome on Showtime.” “LeBron and I talked about it. He ain’t playing if Sterling is still an owner.”

Just do it succinctly.
What is it....?

The "Decision" non-sense?
Hired gun thing?
Nail-biter, shrinks in the big moment criticism?

everything about him since he entered the league. "the king" nickname when he was coming out of high school, the way he whines like a baby, he's the best player in the league but flops like a fkn fish, the decision, not 1 2 3 4 etc, after he lost telling all the fans like you and I that we are nothing and to go back to our meaningless jobs, the list goes on. I just think he's an absolute clown and I want ZERO part of him on our team.
hopefully nobody jumps me here bc of this post  I only did it since 50cal wanted to know.

I bought about half of all that criticism LeBron got. So I was never the biggest fan of his, nor the biggest detractor. But he's won me over as of late; I"m okay with em.

DJ, Crawford, Dudley and some first rounders.

How does Lebron, CP3 and Blake work out?
I guess Lebron is the Off guard and relieves CP3 at times and Blake gets a lot of work

Rivers is the 2nd or 3rd best Coach so I would say this is the best fit for Lebron as far
as Talent, Coach, Big City and if Balmers comes into play Big $.

You guys have a great nucleus with CP3, Blake and the Big Man. Screw LeBron! Add a wing piece like Luol Deng who can play tenacious D and stroke the Three.

Christ, look at SAS keeping Parker, Ginobli and Duncan together for 12 years! Be patient.

First off Neddy, Charles Smith was better than Doc!

Trading away DJ guarantees we have players like Okafor come in to play with the "big three" so we don't have to worry about Ryan Hollins as our starting C.

But with everything LeBron did say with the DTS drama... and with all the money he makes in endorsements, come sign here for the MLE! He will get his money in other ways if he's in LA. I didn't believe that still mattered, the NBA is so big both here and globally that if you are a great player in Milwaukee, you will get your Nike money... but looking at the Cliff Paul commercials corrected me. You want endorsement money, you gotta be in a big city. How many commercials have you seen Tony Parker in?

CP3, JJ, LeBron, Blake, DJ.
Not 1, not 2, not 3.... LOL

No questions asked, I would send Jordan, Crawford, and Dudley tomorrow, if possible. I like Jordan, but I feel that he could be replaced, especially if he might be looking at a big salary increase (whenever that comes up). At $10 million to $12 million I like him, above that and I don't think he is good value. Overall, I think that several players like Asik, Okafor, or Gortat could give you close to the all around impact that Jordan gives you, for probably less money. No, they won't block as many shots, but they would actually be better as some things.

You really don't want to trade Blake, but if you had to, maybe. It depends on the overall package. It should almost be Blake straight up with very little else thrown in. My opinion is that the Clippers (pre Doc) used to make horrible trades and generally got fleeced left and right. Didn't they basically just give away a top 5 pick just a few years ago? You can't go Blake + Crawford + draft picks because you need those pieces to fill out your roster. You can't get Lebron and weaken the team too much.

Having said all of that, I think that the Clippers are closer than people think. Bring in Pierce or Deng (Ariza?), and strengthen the backup PF/C, and I say the Clippers are right there with anyone. It was going to be difficult to win in Doc's first year anyway. Players needed a year to get used to the new system. Use Crawford, Dudley, Barnes, etc. as trade chips.

Return to Los Angeles Clippers
