Clippers Will Sign Farmar to BAE: $4.2M/2yrs

As a UCLA alumnus, I can't say I'm thrilled with the news even though I think he can be a good fit in a system that doesn't require him to handle the ball too much or play defense, which I thought are things we required. He at least provides perimeter scoring from the bench albeit inconsistently. Not a fan of this signing at all.

This is a solid signing for a backup PG, I like it. Farmar isn't a starter, but for $2M as a backup PG, he just needs to stay healthy. He shoots the three with solid accuracy and volume, plays passing lanes well despite being a mediocre defender, and he's not a bad passer actually, neither is he a bad scorer.

I actually don't mind him that much as a ball handler. Had a lot of his career in the triangle, and yes, he is turnover prone, but he's actually a decent passer and pick and roll guy. We'll just have to live with the turnovers, but no worse that for example Bledsoe.

As long as he can stay healthy, I think he can be a good back up PG. Good contract too, considering how money has been flying this off season

Happy with the signing.

Always thought Farm did a good job keeping guys in front of him....just from following his entire career.
didnt know people viewed him as a mediocre defender.

i think it's a good signing. for the BAE who else could we reasonably have picked up at PG? we needed a backup and we got someone who can hit the 3 and has some game. he just needs to stay healthy, like everyone says.

btw kind of not really a fan of this player option garbage that doc apparently thinks is a good idea. either the dude will opt out cause he wants more and we can't afford him (see collison) or we'll get stuck with someone who sucks and won't opt out because they won't say no to free money. gonna be pretty unhappy if farmar slogs through the season half-injured like last season and he hangs on for another one.

another ex laker... smh.

at least he provides decent size for a PG and if Jamal is still here, Farmar will make a nice spot up shooter for ball dominant Crawford.

Remember when the Lakers would sign our free agents like Vlad Rad and Steve Blake?

Generally that is the players agent negotiating that, happens all around the league, but yea, it gives the player a bit of power in their destiny. They can opt out for more of have the security if they didn't perform optimally.

Crap move, this gut couldn't start for his team in the Jewish Recreational League. As a SEason Tix Holder this makes me sad and we over paid for this pice of Crap Laker/Bruin. Someone needs to pay me 4.2 million for 2 years to cheer in Sec 302.
Going to bed PISSED!!!!!!! FU Doc!

Idk why many if you hate this. It isn't omg great but he's perfectly fine as cp3s backup imo. And he shot over 40% from 3 lat season and is a better defender than DC was. I'm cool w it

What a waste of 2.4 Million and a roster spot. Farmar sucks!

Furious over this move, i'd rather have Rick Brunson.

I'm concerned about his injury history. Only played 41 games last season. I think it'll end up solid though.

Decent pickup if he stays healthy. 10 and 5 last year. Good replacement for Collison. For the price you won't get much better.

Iverson-Wannabe

The thing that has always turned me off about him is that he hypes himself up to be so much more than he really is. His Allen-Iverson-wannabe act got old for me while he was playing at my alma mater and it really hasn't subsided even when he hasn't proven to be anything close to being the "Answer".

Dude is a capable 3-point shooter but his FG% has been in the low-40's to upper 30's throughout his career. He also has about a 2-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio. Doc hasn't exactly been Executive of the Year with his player acquisitions but the best I can say about this signing is that at least it's not as bad as the Byron Mullens signing. Doc better rein him in and make him serviceable because I'm leery of his obsession with filling the roster with perimeter-oriented players while not being able to develop fits into his own system despite handpicking the personnel. Yeah, it's not a lot of money but I no longer want to waste roster spots on the likes of Mullens, Dudley, Vujacic, or whatever other waste of space he deems worthy to dive in the dumpster for. Plus, Farmar doesn't exactly carry himself like a winner.

Arash Markazi & Dave McMenamin, ESPN Los Angeles (7/6/14)
"I'm sure it's going to probably be pretty different for me, but we'll see," Farmar said about playing for the opposite side of the budding L.A. rivalry. "Hopefully my real fans, they don't have to cheer for the Clippers, but support me wherever I go and that's all it is. I'll always have a special place for the Lakers in my heart, but it wasn't in the cards for me this time."

Jordan Farmar agrees with Clippers

Seriously, dude. Get over yourself.
