I would like if we would wear the orange and black braves uniforms a few times. And those old school baby blue ones we wore a couple years ago

I wish they made our blue alternates our regular road jerseys. And yes the baby blue Stars uniforms are great

My email to Ballmer

Greetings, Mr. Ballmer.

First, let me say congratulations and thank you for purchasing our beloved Los Angeles Clippers. As a devoted fan of the team since 1988 during the days of Danny Manning, Ron Harper, Gary Grant, and Charles Smith, it is both a relief and joy to finally have an owner who is respectable and enthusiastic about the prospects of delivering the organization to the promised land of Larry’s aplenty.

I’ll also try to keep this brief as I know you have a lot of fan correspondence to go through. The purpose of my email is to request that you consider a logo change to mark the significance and symbolize the change of direction for the franchise. While I have some attachment to the logo over the years, it is a remnant representation of Donald Sterling’s infidelity towards making the organization a capable or even distinct entity.

Upon purchasing the team, he changed the original San Diego Clippers logo to a knock-off of the Lakers’ logo utilizing the more patriotic red-white-blue color scheme. Rather than evolve or become a timeless classic, the logo has since remained practically the same stagnant design with the latest iteration correcting the original design flaw of having too many lines in the basketball outline. In short, change has long been overdue with regard to team ownership and its logo. With one delightfully already taken care of, the other should follow in short order in my personal opinion.

I also applaud your change in agencies from HEILBrice to RPA in rebranding for the post-Sterling era. I actually attended a seminar conducted by HEILBrice a few years ago at the University of California, Irvine. I expressed my concerns over the handling of the Clippers logo, but was disheartened to hear the response I was given as the agency seemed more concerned in keeping the status quo of half-hearted branding activities—and the regular paychecks that came with it—rather than actually portraying the Clippers as a first-rate and unique brand distinct from other NBA teams.

In any case, here are some brainstorming starting points and suggestions for your consideration:

- a basketball representing a sunset or sunrise on the horizon to symbolize either the dawn of a new era (sunrise) or the team’s place in the West (sunset); this could also evoke memories of the franchise’s original Buffalo Braves logo (basketball headdress with embedded buffalo silhouette)

- incorporating the nautical theme of the clipper ships for which the team is named with the use of a compass to represent navigating through uncharted waters

- keeping the red-white-blue color scheme would not only keep a familiar element from the current logo as well as that of the original Braves logo, but also serve to enhance the Clippers’ position as “America’s team”

- keeping the speed lines incorporated into the new design is another familiar element but one that represents forward progress as well as realized momentum

That’s all I have off the top of my head, so I hope my input can be of beneficial use to you and the Los Angeles Clippers. Thank you for taking the time to read this feedback from a long-time fan.

Yours gratefully,
Thai

I wonder if the baby blue color scheme will be done with. Check out this article on Rant Sports: http://www.rantsports.com/nba/2014/09/2 ... the-worst/

Speaking of logos, Ranma, I have one suggestion to share. This requires changing the color scheme, since I'm not sure if the American colors will fit here. The logo would be a film reel with a trailing strip at the end. "Clippers" comes from the root word "clip," meaning "to cut, move along swiftly." It is also a movie term for "film clip." The Clippers are essentially a highlight-reel team, but they are maturing and building substance, just like a script for a movie. The colors would be black, white and gold. The gold would shine around the film reel, signaling that they are championship-ready.

A lot of people want to maintain the history of the Buffalo Braves, but with Steve Ballmer on board, he'll force us to forget their roots and where they came from since the Clippers were a losing team a majority of the time. Ballmer wants a winning product and a competitor, and for him, it may mean leaving the past behind entirely.

Ranma, do you still plan on replying to my PM publicly? I gave you the A-OK a week ago.

I do actually but keep finding myself occupied with stuff. My apologies for the delay. I'll try to respond to it today but I can't promise anything; it is definitely on my to-do list.

Also, I think your suggestion of incorporating a movie/highlight clip element is intriguing. Part of my intent with the letter was to have a basis to brainstorm for ideas. I'm personally not opposed to going in an entirely new direction, but I kept familiar themes since the franchise existed before and after Sterling, plus, it plays on the badge of honor for fans who have stuck with the team through thick and thin. The red-white-blue color scheme not only plays on the familiarity aspect, but also on Ballmer's previously stated wish of having the Clippers become "America's team". Part of his justification for keeping the Clippers' team name was that he thought that it was a familiar and strong brand that could be built upon after publicity with the ousting of Sterling.
