Chris Paul Declining?
All my buddies have been so quick to tell me how much the other PGs have caught up. I can live with it. But they tell me that they have caught up because CP IS ON the decline.
My question to my fellow Clipper fans.
Is Chris Paul on the decline or are my friends birth-certificate-watching and saying that because they see he's near 30?
thank God a nameless poster is on ignore.

Re: Chris Paul Declining?
there were a more than once or twice CP3 made Curry look down right stupid off of his dribble last night. just because he doesn't go off 30-15-8-5 every game, does not mean he is declining. I think he is trying to save himself from injuries prior to the playoffs. Blake too, they seem to pick and choose when and where to go turbocharged. besides, I have always said and stood by my assessment that we will only reach the top if and when blake becomes our clear #1 option. when blake is the next big thing, CP3 will become the most ideal Robin to Blake's Batmanhood.
ehhhhh f it.

Re: Chris Paul Declining?
He's having possibly the best season of his career, certainly his best as a Clipper. If he was chucking more on lesser efficiency, worrying about getting his instead of winning more, and the team had an average defense because of it instead of the top offense we have now, then people would be saying he's a top 3 player. But he don't care about none of that, thankfully.
No, he is not declining at all.

Chris Paul is on a different kind of decline. There was actually a stat on TNT last night that showed Chris Paul at 9.7 AST per game. Doc Rivers and Sam Cassell have been at his ear, wanting him to be a scorer, but Paul likes to pass the ball to help get his teammates involved. Unfortunately, he's learned the hard way that scoring for points, and not passing the ball for assists counts, is how you win games. You still need to pass the ball to prevent the opposition from contesting shots and forcing turnovers (carving up the defense), but the focal point of basketball has always been to score. Basically, Paul is slowly becoming a dual guard (point guard/shooting guard hybrid).
One of the benefits of "changing positions" is that you help a teammate unlock a new potential. Blake Griffin will slowly become the primary assist man for the Clippers. In their loss to the Hawks, Griffin recorded only his second double-double of 21 PTS and 11 AST without a double-digit rebound. Griffin's a great passer and is more unpredictable than Paul's passing. Opposing teams have figured out how to guard CP3 completely, but now that Griffin has assumed more responsibility, they're starting to forget about the little point guard that can.
This decline is by design. But when the playoffs come around, Paul will be a brand new player. Griffin and Jordan, too.

Re: Chris Paul Declining?
cp3 is fine. the problem is that others are getting better. the super fast guys like westbrook, wall, etc. are extremely hard to defend. they are also scoring more. the problem I see is at the end of close games when he tries to do to much and I blame that on coaching. clips need a better game plan late in the last 3 mins.

Re: Chris Paul Declining?
I think Chris Paul bases his play on his high bball IQ so even as he gets into his 30s he will always be effective. I think he only has a 3 year window to win a chip until he is on the decline and will have to choose between money and a title. I'm hoping he does a Dirk/Duncan and takes a massive pay cut once he is on the decline.

Clips need to pickup Jeff Green or Wilson Chandler. We have the expendable assets to move to get that done.

Re: Chris Paul Declining?
It is because there are a lot of very nice PG's in the league.
CP is averaging 18/5/10 in 35 mpg and shooting 49/40/88. He's fine and should be for some time to come

Which assets do you think we should include?

Re: Chris Paul Declining?
I would not part with blake, cp3, jj, or jamal. I would like to keep dj but if he could get us a really good player at the 3 spot who would rebound and be lock down on defense then yes. I am just tired of his one great play and one bone head no play. plus he is a big negative in close games with the free throw problem.

Re: Chris Paul Declining?
Curry, Wall, Lowry, Lillard have benefited from good coaching systems.
Westbrook has benefited from OKC's awesome young player development.
CP3 is still the most balanced PG - scoring, D, and creating.
The clippers offense is stagnant on player movement, and relies heavily on ISO and transition plays. Combine that with this season's regressed D.
The decline of Clippers' system, with an ongoing improvement of systems around in the league have increased the popularity of other PGs.

I'm open to trading DJ but we would need to get a no nonsense rebounding center from somewhere which might be difficult. I would trade Jamal to help solve this.

Re: Chris Paul Declining?
I have to agree somewhat. we surely would need a big as part of the deal. the problem with trading jamal is you have no scorer on the second unit. I had rather trade farmar, dj. matt, and others for a really good 3 and another pg. start hawes and see what happens. hope a big comes in the deal.

his back ups are declining losing collison to the kings was a big loss. I feel like Chris has to play more minutes.

He's not as dominant and doesn't get to his spots as easily as in years past. I expected a more aggressive CP this year, a true career year. He's been fantastic, of course, but a slight disappointment.

He still is a great player. The only thing that concerns me is his endurance. He seems to get fatigued. However, it is understandable considering the recent schedule of the Clippers

Watching this GSW vs TOR game and Curry is playing better than I've seen CP play in a year or so.

Re: Chris Paul Declining?
Maybe he is declining after all. Have a look at this, courtesy of Trisity Miller from Fully Clips:
http://fullyclips.com/2015/01/07/stat-d ... ly-clutch/
He is LAST in producing in the clutch. 7 of 31 shots made in games with less than 5 minutes remaining within a 5 point margin. Ahead of him: the other top point guards in the league. 0 of 31 of his shots this season were Sudden Death Shots. The only Sudden Death Shot the Clippers had came courtesy of a 3-pointer by Blake Griffin vs. the Suns in December. CP3 may be losing his superstar status after all.
