Why do some players struggle to knock down 3's when they join us?

We seem to live and die by the 3 and therefore we chase 3pt shooters but for some reason they don't seem to always work out.

3 point %
Dudley - before: 39.1%
Dudley - as Clipper: 36.0% (injury problems)
Dudley - after: 41.8%

CDR - before: 38.6%
CDR - as Clipper: 14.3% (injury problems)

Hawes - before: 41.6%
Hawes - as Clipper: 34.8% (injury problems)

Farmar - before: 43.8%
Farmar - as Clipper: 36.4%

Are we giving up on players before we even give them a chance? Dudley had one injury riddled season and then we kicked him out.
Would anyone here prefer CDR over Dudley if the latter was injury free and shooting 41.8%?
Will CDR/Hawes/Farmar go back to their great 3pt % after they recover from injury and learn to gel with the team?
Is our 'we must win this year' mindset making us worse?

I thought Doc should have stuck with Dudley to see if he came out of his poor shooting form from last year, especially because CDR obviously not a viable alternative.

Anything above 35% from the 3 is considered good. But yeah, I get your point. They aren't as deadly as they were. I remember when we signed Cat Mobley. He was decent for us but wasn't the deadly shooter he was in Houston when he came here.

Well the latest two guys, Dudley and CDR, the injuries are there, Hawes a little injury, but he's just struggled. Redick has been great though if that is any consolation.

Dudley was hurt all year, CDR has never been a good shooter (outside a fluke year) and Hawes has been hurt. I was a big Dudley proponent, but he was ragged on all season. Hes playing much more like the Dudley I was expecting. That said, Bullock should have been able to replicate that, but doesn't get to play.

Lots of disappointment in Doc's signings, right or wrong.

I'll extend the topic a little further: ever since Corey Maggette left the Clippers, their small forwards have been bad.

I think the Clippers will have to live with a cursed small forward position. Their primary strengths are with the point guard and power forward spots. That's where teamwork has to come in. Point guards, shooting guards and power forwards will have to take turns playing at the 3 so that their small forward weakness is masked. It's not ideal, but it's an adversity they will need to overcome to prove they can be an elite team. Championship teams are made of rags, not riches.

I honestly think if we had Dudley, pushing Barnes' energy to our bench unit, it would make a lot of difference and would be a good foundation. CDR and Hawes haven't impressed us but maybe we should give them another year.

Dudley and Hawes were injured and they went back/will be back to their usual shooting numbers as soon as they're healthy. CDR and Farmar just were never good players you can rely on.

Redick and Barnes, on the other hand, are having career shooting years, so it's got nothing to do with the system or anything like that.

Bullock is killin it too, and I hope not long from now he'll be manning the 3 for us.
