Has anyone seen this? interesting mini doc.
Via Vice Sports “A trip home to Sacramento for Matt Barnes means confronting ghosts of his troublesome past: a drug dealing father, being threatened by the KKK for protecting his sister, and living near dangerous gang members, among many other things. It’s not a pleasant trip down memory lane, but in this VICE Sports exclusive Barnes explains why all the hardships he experienced in his youth helped him grow as a man and become.”

Just watched it, that was a very interesting watch. Highly suggest the rest of you on here watch it. It's 11 minutes long, but was a good piece. Interesting to see him tell first hand where he came from, how he grew up, how he got to where he is today, and everything in between.
Thanks for posting JaysRangers

Dynamix posted this video in the media thread in October. I don't think it had it's own thread though.
Also, here's a thread on the Grantland article detailing his upbringing and NBA career.

Yall really think you know me, but to keep it real you hv no clue...! Just know whether you hate me or love me....... I'm always gonna land on my feet.. I love all my fans, the fans that appreciate & respect the hard work & time we put in, all the school plays & sporting events we miss out on in our children's lives.. We get paid well, but we are still human just like you.. We can't call into work when we're sick, we hv to play, when we lose family members we don't hv time to morn, we hv to play, when we lose our families & don't get to see our kids for days at a time, we can't go hide & cry, we get paid to entertain, so we get on that court ...
My life is played out in front of the world.. My life is your entertainment, you see **** on blogs & tv & think you know the whole story.. ****, by the way yall pass judgment & comment you would think you were there.. SO MANY CRITICS WITH NO CREDENTIALS! But what HAS ALWAYS KEEP THAT FIRE INSIDE OF ME BURNIN & THAT **** DOGG YOU SEE ON THE COURT, is EVERYONE who says I CANT!! ASK KOBE,CP OR BG WHO THEY GOIN 2 WAR WITH?? BET IM ON THAT LIST! Yet yall sit on social media passing judgment or the reporters, some who couldn't even lace up a pair of shoes let alone run up & down the court has the nerve to tell US wat we're not good at!! That's kinda always made me laugh.. Smh!
Next time you try & pass judgment make sure you know the person, or you have all the information for the situation, because I guarantee 9 out of 10 times you don't know the person or you only know half the story... In a world driven by attention & hate I'm scared to death of what the future holds for my kids, yes my kids will live a good life, because I worked my ass off for that, but how can I look Isaiah & Carter in the eyes & tell them based on the fact you are BLACK ITALIAN & MEXICAN people with HATE YOU for that reason alone, cops will PROFILE YOU for that REASON ALONE, you may not get a JOB, for that reason alone....
YOU THINK YOU KNOW ME....You know Matt Barnes the basketball player, the Matt Barnes the media wants you to know.. You don't know MATT BARNES the MAN, MATT BARNES THE FATHER! #YOUTHINKYOUKNOWME!

Re: Matt Barnes takes you through his childhood and life experiences
Matt is one of the players that was on the top of my "disliked players list." It's safe to say that he's high on the list for a lot of NBA fans. I'm glad that he's on the Clippers. His name has been tossed around in trade rumors for a couple of seasons in hopes of improving the SF position. Right now, he's making that hole look a little less obvious with the way that he's been playing. I'm all for moves that will actually improve the roster, but I have to say that I'd be pretty sad to see Matt go.
Love him or hate him, he's not phony or fake regardless of what people may say. He certainly wears his heart on his sleeve, which has been both a gift and a curse for him. He's not the most talented, skilled or gifted, but he'll give you everything that he has.

Re: Matt Barnes takes you through his childhood and life experiences
this was awesome.
thanks for posting. I hated Matt Barnes and was skeptical of him coming to Clipper Country. I thought he was a "fake tough guy" and he had fouled Blake hard before and talked nonsense about him before. I quickly changed course in his first few preseason games here.
I'm glad he stayed the course and made his career work for him and I hope that he can finish up as a Clipper.
and this season makes this his longest stint anywhere I believe.

his coach said he had 27 touchdowns his senior year or something
and Matt said out loud, "28!"
was pretty funny that he never forgot what he did that season.
