The Clippers Have Created A Monster - The Scrub Problem

Remember their loss to the Heat, when the Clippers got smacked by the big, unknown, Hassan Whiteside? They thought he was a scrub, and therefore, subjected to the same scouting report as rookies: easily foulable, won't be played until garbage time. Then this happened:

Hassan captured a career high in points and rebounds against the Clippers - and all because they refused to take him seriously. Thanks to that, the Clippers have single handedly created a monster, for Hassan, today, notched his first ever triple double against the Chicago Bulls: 13 points, 12 blocks AND rebounds.

Turning unknowns into All Stars for a day has been a thematic issue for the Clippers this season. This goes beyond the issues they have at small forward and defense in general. This is a scouting problem.

Why is it that the Clippers seem to be the only team in the league to turn opposing players into superstars?

This is also a place where you can post games that featured an unknown player going off against the Clippers, or a known player who broke out and turned into an All Star against them.

Both. Mainly it's a question to the fans: is there a problem with how the Clippers scout opposing teams? If there isn't, why have scrubs like Whiteside gone off hard against them?

I personally think Whammy has a bright future working for any conservative think tank because creating something out of nothing seems to be his talent.

We have been terrible defending PF/Cs the last few years. This year is no exception as we are in the bottom 1/3 against centers.

Anybody who thought Whiteside was a scrub before this game clearly needs to start scouting prospects. Everything Whiteside is doing was expected from him coming out of college. At one point he was considered as the #1 pick if he had returned for his sophomore season in college. He ultimately declared after his freshman season, because he was already 20. He was a blocking machine in college, and I'm glad it translated into the NBA. He was drafted in a bad spot in Sacramento, and unfortunately never got any playing time from them before being cut.

watching on ESPN.

apparently he said 3 months ago he was at the Downtown Y and couldn't get a team to pick up the phone.
the guy was out of the league for 2 years.

i mean….just lol at laying this at Doc's feet.
good for the Heat though.

This is most likely due to not watching enough games of non-Clipper teams
