as long as we make the playoffs relatively healthy with a decent trade (plz go away, jamal) or midseason pickup i wouldn't be worried. relatively solid rehearsal of our defensive system is pretty important too.

LOL... I almost envy the optimists. I wish I could fool myself into thinking this underwhelming and undisciplined team isn't destined for another playoff flameout, but I haven't seen anything this year to demonstrate that any other outcome is realistic.

dude, you say you are an old timer like me, and yet you act like we are some kind of a perennial winner that is disappointing the fan base with their frugal success.
this is the most successful time in our franchise as a CLIPPER ever.
sure, as Celtics before the franchise swap which made us look like we were from Buffalo when the braves actually relocated to boston to play in our past green, we did win a ton under the guidance of Red and all, but as CLIPPERS, SD, LA sports arena or at our current home of the staples center, we have never ever been this successful. would you rather we are back in Bo Kimble days? Terry Dehere days? Ken Norman days? Pike the polish rifle days? or Kandiman days?
appreciate the success even if we fall a little short of our monumental expectations. enjoy the ride for a change, even if we make the playoffs as the 8th seed. when was the last time we made playoffs back to back to back and no sight of falling off of it in near future?

This I'll have to disagree with. There's a difference between making the playoffs as a 40 win team without stars, without anything to build upon and making the playoffs as a mid-50's win team in a hard conference and with pieces to continue to build and tweak upon. People have fallen in love with this treadmill idea and make it seem like you either have to be #1 or #2 in your conference or tanking. I mean do people think that most teams just jump from one to the other and there's no building phase?MartinToVaught wrote:Neddy wrote:MartinToVaught wrote:LOL... I almost envy the optimists. Meh. Just making the playoffs isn't good enough, especially when this was supposed to be the big payoff for all the decades of suffering. The reality is, if you're not either making deep playoff runs (conference finals and NBA Finals) or tanking, you're just pointlessly riding the treadmill.

The problem here is that it seems like some Clipper fans never paid attention to the other teams back in the day and thought "oh we get good players and just like that we'll be making the WCF and will be in the finals". The reality is that guess what? Many other teams also have good players, and historically, the only teams that are consistently going to the WCF are the ones that either have the "best player in the league" type gys or the extremely well built two way teams....and even those ones with those "best player" guys wouldn't do much when they had poorly built teams.
So let's get back to reality where this "big payoff for all the decades" needs to be understood properly. It gave the Clippers a chance to be a contender, something that has never happened before, but because people aren't used to being a winning team, they thought it was some 2, 3 year type of plan. Some Clipper fans really just thought max, 2-3 years and this team is in the WCF or Finals, so what were people expecting of SA and OKC back in 11-12? Did people expect no other WC to rise to being good? Don't think that having a chance to be a contender is some sort of guarantee of anything, especially in the WC, but don't think that when you have that chance you just quit because "well it's 4 years now", lol, so what?
